A challenging charity event has witnessed two individuals dragging a new Kia Picanto over a distance of 30 miles within a 24-hour timeframe, successfully raising over £12,000 in the process.
Ed Jackson and Ross Stirling towed the new Picanto, which weighs nearly a tonne, as far as they could during the 24-hour challenge along a runway at Bovingdon Airfield in Hertfordshire.
By the conclusion of this demanding event, the duo had garnered more than £12,000 for the Millimetres 2 Mountains (M2M) Foundation, co-founded by Ed and his wife Lois. This mental health charity aims to assist individuals through outdoor exploration and was established following Ed’s accident in 2017, where he miscalculated the depth of water in a pool, resulting in a broken neck and paralysis from the waist down. Despite being informed that he would never walk again, Ed has successfully summited several mountains and participated in this event by pulling the Picanto.
Ed remarked, “That was an incredible challenge. Each year, we enjoy spreading some Christmas cheer by undertaking something a bit unconventional, and this may have been our most difficult yet! A heartfelt thank you to Kia and FJ Chalke for providing the car—it not only looked fantastic but also made our journey from Somerset to the airfield remarkably smooth. Thank you!"
Ross has raised over £1 million for charity to date and serves as a trustee of the M2M Foundation. He is currently the creative director for a music venue operator in the United States.
Stirling commented: “I anticipated that this fundraiser would present a significant mental challenge. Enduring the early hours at 4 am in complete darkness was difficult, but the remarkable supporters who arrived in the morning provided us with the motivation to persevere! A tremendous thank you to our wonderful sponsors and everyone who contributed—you all made this achievement possible!"
