Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has introduced an enhancement to the Toyota Innova Hycross MPV by incorporating a new feature. The hybrid variants of this MPV are now equipped with the Acoustic Vehicle Alert System (AVAS). Notably, the pricing for the Toyota Innova Hycross remains unchanged despite this addition. The AVAS feature is available on the VX, VX (O), ZX, and ZX (O) trims, which are offered in both seven and eight-seater configurations.

In terms of design and mechanical specifications, the Toyota Innova Hycross has not undergone any alterations aside from the new feature. The premium MPV is powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine in conjunction with an electric motor. The hybrid variant is equipped with an eCVT transmission. Toyota asserts that the hybrid version achieves a fuel efficiency of 23.24 kmpl. Additionally, a non-hybrid 2.0-litre petrol engine option is also available for the MPV.

What is AVAS?

The Acoustic Vehicle Alert System (AVAS) is a feature commonly integrated into many contemporary electric and hybrid vehicles. It employs an acoustic alert at specific speeds to notify pedestrians and other road users of the vehicle's presence.

Electric vehicles, lacking an internal combustion engine or exhaust system, do not produce any powertrain noise. This results in their silent operation, contrasting with the sounds generated by traditional internal combustion engine vehicles. Such silence can lead to accidents, as pedestrians and other road users may be unaware of the presence of electric or hybrid vehicles operating solely on electric power.

To address this concern, numerous manufacturers of electric and hybrid vehicles have begun equipping their models with AVAS. This feature is designed to alert those in proximity to the vehicle, thereby reducing the likelihood of accidents.
