The Kia Syros is the newest sub-four-metre compact SUV set to enter the Indian market in the upcoming New Year. Once launched, it will occupy a position between the Kia Sonet and the Kia Seltos. Notably, Kia already offers the Sonet in the sub-compact SUV category, where it faces stiff competition from models such as the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, and Mahindra XUV 300, among others.

The rationale for introducing another sub-four-metre SUV is to capture a larger market share. To ensure that the Syros stands out, the South Korean manufacturer, part of the Hyundai group, has designed the Syros to be more premium than the Sonet. It boasts an extensive array of features and a completely new design philosophy. Additionally, the Kia Syros provides more space for both passengers and cargo compared to the Kia Sonet, attributed to its longer wheelbase and increased boot capacity.

With bookings for the Kia Syros expected to open on January 3 of the coming year, the pricing details will be revealed shortly. Upon its release, the SUV will compete against a diverse set of rivals, including those that challenge both the Sonet and Seltos. The Skoda Kushaq, another recently launched sub-compact SUV in India, will be a significant competitor for the Kia Syros.

The Kia Syros and Skoda Kylaq both have a length of 3,995 mm; however, the Kia SUV is 22 mm wider, measuring 1,805 mm in width compared to the Kylaq's 1,783 mm. In terms of height, the Kia Syros stands at 1,680 mm, which is 61 mm greater than the Skoda Kylaq's height of 1,619 mm. The wheelbase of the Kia Syros is 2,550 mm, making it 16 mm shorter than the Kylaq's wheelbase of 2,566 mm. Additionally, the Kia Syros offers a boot capacity of 465 litres, which is 19 litres more than the Skoda Kylaq's 446-litre storage space.

Kia Syros versus Skoda Kylaq: Technical Specifications.

The Kia Syros is equipped with a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, alongside a more powerful 1.5-litre diesel engine option. The petrol variant offers transmission choices that include a six-speed manual and a seven-speed DCT automatic. It produces a peak power of 118 bhp and a maximum torque of 172 Nm.
