27 days ago | 5 Views
The Tesla Model 3 is anticipated to enter the Indian market following recent reports indicating that the manufacturer has begun hiring within the country. Additionally, a recent meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has garnered significant media attention.
A report from CLSA, a global capital markets firm, suggests that with a potential reduction in import duties to 15-20 percent in India, the on-road price of the Tesla Model 3 could range between ₹35-40 lakh, excluding additional expenses such as road tax and insurance. The Tesla Model 3 has already made a notable impact in the electric vehicle (EV) sector, known for its impressive range, performance, and cutting-edge technology. Below are the expected features of the EV based on its specifications from international markets:
Tesla Model 3: Performance and Range
The Model 3 is available in three configurations: Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD), Long long-range all-wheel Drive (AWD), and Performance, catering to diverse driving preferences.
The RWD variant is powered by a 60kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, generating approximately 208kW of power. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds and has a WLTP-estimated range of 513 km. The Long Range AWD model is equipped with a 79kWh lithium nickel manganese cobalt battery, producing around 366kW, achieving 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds, and extending the range to 629 km. The Performance variant, also utilizing a 79kWh battery, delivers 461kW, with a remarkable 0 to 100 km/h time of 3.1 seconds and a range of 528 km.
Tesla Model 3: Design and features
The 2025 Model 3 presents a revitalized exterior design, featuring updated headlights and enhanced aerodynamics. The interior is equipped with a 15.4-inch central touchscreen that serves as the hub for infotainment and various functionalities. Additionally, rear passengers are provided with an 8.0-inch touchscreen to manage climate and entertainment settings. Standard amenities include ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, and a panoramic glass roof.
In terms of safety and autonomous driving, Tesla's Autopilot system is included as standard across all variants, providing features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, and autonomous emergency braking. Optional upgrades like Enhanced Autopilot and Full Self-Driving Capability introduce advanced functionalities, including Navigate on Autopilot, Auto Lane Change, Autopark, Summon, and Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control.
Ultimately, Tesla's successful entry into the Indian market hinges on its willingness to invest significantly in local manufacturing. Without such investment, even with lowered import duties, electric vehicles may remain financially inaccessible to a considerable segment of Indian consumers, as indicated by the report.
