TVS Motor Company, the Indian two-wheeler manufacturer, has just introduced its new 300cc engine at the annual MotoSoul event. Named the RT-XD4, this engine will power their upcoming motorcycles. TVS emphasizes that this engine is completely new and has no ties to the older 312cc model.
This 299.1 cc, single-cylinder engine is designed to be forward inclined. It delivers a maximum power of 34 bhp at 9,000 rpm and a peak torque of 28.5 Nm at 7,000 rpm. It features a 6-speed gearbox equipped with a slip-and-assist clutch, along with a ride-by-wire throttle for enhanced performance.
TVS RT-XD4: Tech Features
The new TVS RT-XD4 comes with some cool tech upgrades compared to the current 312cc TVS engine. This fresh engine features four dual technologies, including dual overhead cams and a downdraft port that allows it to rev higher and boost performance. It’s equipped with two oil pumps and a split chamber crankcase for optimal lubrication and torque across the board. Plus, the dual cooling jacket cylinder heads have a water jacket on top and an oil jacket below, which enhances cooling and further improves performance.
On top of that, it has a dual breather system that keeps oil contamination at bay and cuts down on oil consumption, ensuring steady performance over longer rides. It also includes liquid cooling with both water and oil jackets.

TVS RT-XD4: What's new with the 312cc engine?
The new RT-XD4 engine is set to outperform the current 312.12 cc engine, which delivers 35 bhp and 28.7 Nm. The existing engine features an 80 mm bore, a 62.1 mm stroke, and is liquid-cooled with a 6-speed gearbox that includes a slipper clutch. Although the performance stats are somewhat similar, the RT-XD4's advanced design might give it an advantage in overall performance.
TVS is touting the new engine's smooth and consistent torque delivery, promising a seamless power experience. While we’re still waiting for official specs, it’s anticipated that the RT-XD4 will be lighter than the current 312cc engine, potentially enhancing the power-to-weight ratio. This could also lead to better fuel efficiency and help meet stricter upcoming emission standards.
TVS RT-XD4: Which bikes will have the new engine?
TVS hasn't announced when the new RT-XD4 engine will hit the market, but they've already trademarked a fresh name: TVS Apache RTX. Spy shots have shown that TVS is developing a new 300cc adventure bike, which is expected to be the Apache RTX and likely the first model to feature the RT-XD4 engine.
Reports suggest that testing is almost done, so we might see a launch around mid-2025. Right now, TVS offers the RTR 310 streetfighter and the fully-faired Apache RR 310 in its 300cc lineup.
