Skoda has recently announced the official fuel efficiency ratings for its newest SUV, the Kylaq. This sub-compact SUV marks Skoda's inaugural entry into the Indian market, with a starting price of ₹7.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The company aims to capitalize on the growing popularity of sub-compact SUVs, positioning itself against established competitors such as the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Hyundai Venue, and Kia Sonet, among others.
The Skoda Kylaq is equipped with a single turbocharged petrol engine, which can be paired with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. According to the manufacturer, the manual variant of the Kylaq is expected to deliver a mileage of up to 19.68 kmpl, while the automatic version is projected to achieve fuel efficiency of up to 19.06 kmpl. Below is a brief comparison of the Skoda Kylaq SUV's mileage against some of its main competitors in the market.
Skoda Kylaq fuel efficiency compared to rivals
The Kylaq SUV presents superior fuel efficiency metrics when compared to its competitors. Its automatic variants boast a mileage of 19.05 kmpl, making it the most efficient option in its class, surpassing models such as the Nexon, Brezza, Sonet, Venue, and XUV 3XO. The vehicle is equipped with a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder TSI petrol engine, capable of producing 113 bhp and a peak torque of 178 Nm.
Among its competitors, only the Venue and Sonet provide similar engine specifications. Although the Kylaq is slightly less powerful than these two models, it compensates with a higher torque output. In terms of fuel efficiency, the Kylaq ranks second among the three, as the automatic variants of the Venue with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine achieve just over 18 kmpl. The Sonet's turbo petrol variant with a DCT gearbox offers marginally better efficiency than the Kylaq.
Kylaq's other key rivals like the Nexon, Brezza and XUV 3XO are offered more powerful engines with better output figures. Barring the Brezza, the other SUVs come with a 1.2-litre petrol engine. Maruti Brezza is offered with a 1.5-litre unit, the biggest engine in the segment. In the manual variants, the 19.68 kmpl mileage offered by the Kylaq is second best to XUV 3XO's 20.01 kmpl. Among others, only the Sonet comes closer to Kylaq with a mileage of 18.83 kmpl mileage in the manual variant. The other two SUVs offer less than 18 kmpl of fuel efficiency in manual variants. However, the Brezza tops the list of automatic variants with the best mileage of 19.8 km.
