Skoda Kylaq Production Launches at Chakan Plant Due to High Demand

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India (SAVWIPL) has officially commenced production of the new Skoda Kylaq SUV at its manufacturing plant located in Chakan, Maharashtra. This new model marks the fifth vehicle developed on the MQB A0 IN platform, which is also the foundation for the Skoda Kushaq and Slavia, in addition to the Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus.

The upcoming Skoda Kylaq will be produced domestically for both local and international markets. The manufacturer emphasizes that this new SUV is founded on four key principles: safety, comfort, quality, and global design. Skoda Auto Volkswagen has also announced a 10 per cent enhancement in its local supplier network, aimed at improving turnaround times and lowering the cost of ownership for the Kylaq. This development is expected to positively impact its other products manufactured in India.

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India has enhanced its production capacity by 30 per cent to facilitate the introduction of the new Skoda Kylaq at the Chakan facility. 

Regarding the commencement of Kylaq production, Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO of Skoda Auto Volkswagen India, remarked, “We are excited to initiate the production of Skoda Auto India’s inaugural sub-4-metre SUV. I extend my congratulations to the entire team for the successful launch of production. The Kylaq has been designed and developed in India to meet the changing needs of Indian consumers. By producing the Kylaq locally, we are proud to contribute to the Make-in-India initiative, while upholding the Group’s commitment to safety, comfort, and driving performance. It was encouraging to witness the favourable response it garnered during its world premiere last month, and I am confident that the Skoda Kylaq will resonate well with Indian car buyers.”

Skoda Auto Volkswagen has enhanced its production capacity by 30 per cent, reaching an annual output of 255,000 units to support the launch of the Kylaq. The company has also reported improvements in operational efficiency, with production lines now achieving a rate of 40 jobs per hour (JPH).

Andreas Dick, a Member of the Board of Management at Skoda Auto responsible for Production and Logistics, stated, “The successful initiation of production for the Skoda Kylaq is a testament to the remarkable teamwork and collaboration between our teams in India and the Czech Republic. Every aspect has been carefully planned and executed, from design to the adoption of advanced manufacturing processes, ensuring that we uphold the highest standards of quality and efficiency. These initiatives have established the perfect foundation for the Kylaq to become a key player in our success in India, setting new standards in the compact SUV market and reinforcing our dedication to this vibrant market.” 

Skoda Auto India Dealership Growth Initiative

Skoda Auto India aims to increase its network to 350 outlets by 2025, focusing on Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. The launch of the new Kylaq is scheduled for January 27, 2025, with introductory prices starting at ₹7.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The automaker has announced that the Kylaq has received more than 10,000 bookings within just 10 days. Additionally, due to the high demand, the company has ceased accepting bookings for the base variant of the Kylaq.
