The Indian sub-compact SUV market experienced significant growth over the past year, marked by the introduction of two new models: the Skoda Kylaq and the Kia Syros. Kia, already established in this segment with the Sonet, sees the Skoda Kylaq as its inaugural sub-compact SUV offering in India. The Kylaq was officially launched in November 2024, with bookings opening in December. Deliveries for this model are expected to commence on January 27, 2025.

Notably, Skoda reported that the Kylaq surpassed 10,000 bookings within just 10 days of its availability for order. Additionally, the starting price for the Kylaq is set at ₹7.89 lakh, ex-showroom, with this pricing applicable only until the model reaches 33,333 bookings.

Skoda Kylaq: Price

The base model of the Kylaq is available at a price of ₹7.89 lakh, positioning it as one of the most competitively priced options within its segment. In contrast, the top-tier Skoda Kylaq Prestige is offered at ₹14.40 lakh for the automatic transmission variant, while the manual transmission variant is priced at ₹13.35 lakh. Additionally, the mid-range Signature and Signature+ models are priced at ₹9.59 lakh and ₹11.40 lakh for the manual transmission options, and ₹10.59 lakh and ₹12.40 lakh for the automatic transmission variants, respectively.

Skoda Kylaq: Design

The latest Skoda Kylaq represents the brand's most compact SUV to date, positioning itself against competitors such as the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, and Hyundai Venue. This new model introduces Skoda's Modern-Solid design philosophy, characterized by split headlamps, a robust silhouette, and minimal overhangs. The iconic butterfly grille is reimagined in a contemporary style. Additionally, the top variants of this small SUV will be equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, while LED daytime running lights and headlamps will be standard across all models.

Skoda Kylaq: Features

The Skoda Kylaq is equipped with a digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch central touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. These features are exclusive to the higher trim levels, while the base models are restricted to a five-inch touchscreen and a semi-digital instrument cluster.

The vehicle offers six-way power-adjustable front seats with ventilation, and the interior can be customized with either single or dual-tone color schemes, depending on the selected variant. The Classic, Signature, and Signature+ trims feature various types of fabric upholstery, whereas the top-tier Prestige variant is outfitted with leatherette seating. Additionally, an electric sunroof is anticipated to be available for this model.

Skoda asserts that the new Kylaq has undergone testing over 800,000 kilometers of Indian terrain to ensure its readiness for the country's challenging driving conditions. The vehicle is equipped with over 25 active and passive safety features, which include six airbags, multi-collision braking, rollover protection, an electronic differential lock, anti-lock braking with EBD, and electronic stability control, among others.

Skoda Kylaq: Engine

The Skoda Kylaq is equipped with a 1.0-litre three-cylinder TSI petrol engine, which is also utilized in other vehicles from the India 2.0 project, such as the Skoda Kushaq. However, in contrast to the Kushaq and the Slavia, the Kylaq will not feature the 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine.

The 1.0-litre petrol engine in the Kylaq generates a peak power of 114 bhp and a maximum torque of 178 Nm. For the higher-end variants, this engine will be offered with either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic transmission, while the base Classic variant of the subcompact SUV will be available exclusively with the manual transmission.
