The mass premium SUV market has recently been invigorated by the introduction of two new models: the Skoda Kodiaq and the Volkswagen Tiguan R Line. Although these SUVs share a similar foundation, consumers interested in this segment may also consider the BYD Sealion 7, which made its debut in India in March 2025.
The Skoda Kodiaq is offered exclusively with a petrol engine, whereas the Sealion 7 is an all-electric vehicle. Both SUVs are equipped with a comprehensive array of features and deliver impressive performance. Skoda Kodaiq vs Volkswagen Tiguan R Line: Price
The Skoda Kodiaq is manufactured in India and comes in the Sportline variant priced at ₹46.89 lakh, while the more luxurious Laurin & Klement (L&K) variant is available for ₹48.69 lakh. Both prices are ex-showroom. In contrast, the BYD Sealion 7 is offered at a price range of ₹48.90 lakh to ₹54.90 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Premium and Performance variants, respectively.
Skoda Kodaiq vs Volkswagen Tiguan R Line: Specs
The Skoda Kodiaq is equipped with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 201 bhp and generates 320 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and features an all-wheel-drive system.
The BYD Sealion 7 is powered by an 82.5 kWh battery. The Premium variant comes with a front-wheel-drive configuration, while the Performance version is designed with all-wheel drive. The Premium model delivers a peak power of 308 bhp and a maximum torque of 380 Nm, achieving a 0-100 km/h acceleration in 6.7 seconds and offering a range of up to 567 kilometres on a full charge. In contrast, the Performance variant utilizes the same battery pack but produces 522 bhp and 690 Nm of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds and providing a range of up to 542 kilometres on a full charge.

The Skoda Kodiaq emphasizes comfort and practical functionality within its interior. It is equipped with a 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver display, a head-up display, and one of my preferred features, Skoda’s innovative Smart Dials, which combine rotary knobs with digital screens for effortless control of climate and media settings. Additionally, the Kodiaq offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a high-end 14-speaker Canton sound system, ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and wireless phone charging, all contributing to its luxurious atmosphere.
The Sealion 7 is equipped with an extensive array of features, with both trims offering the same specifications. Its all-black interior showcases a flat-bottom, four-spoke steering wheel, a 15.6-inch rotatable display that controls most functions, and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Notable highlights include a crystal gear selector and a driver monitoring system that employs infrared technology to detect signs of drowsiness or distraction. The front seats, upholstered in Nappa leather, are power-adjustable (8-way for the driver, including lumbar support, and 6-way for the passenger) and feature ventilation. Additional amenities comprise a head-up display, a 12-speaker sound system, dual-zone climate control, and a panoramic sunroof.
