
Skoda Auto Volkswagen Celebrates Production of 500,000th Engine at Indian Facility

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd., the Indian branch of the Volkswagen Group, has reached a significant milestone by manufacturing its 500,000th engine in India. This achievement took place at the Chakan facility in Maharashtra, which has been the primary production center for the brand's models in India throughout the years.

In a significant announcement, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India stated that this achievement underscores their dedication to localization, innovation, and global excellence, thereby enhancing India's position as a vital manufacturing and export center for the Volkswagen Group.
VW engines for India
The VW Group mainly manufactures the 1.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine at this facility. This engine generates 113 bhp and delivers a maximum torque of 178 Nm, and it can be combined with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a torque converter. Additionally, certain models are equipped with the 1.5-litre TSI turbo petrol engine, which is calibrated to produce 148 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque, available with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG transmission. The latter variant is imported into India.

More recently, SAVWIPL received the certification for its 1.0-litre TSI engine for E20 compliance, which means it can run on 20 per cent ethanol-blended fuel. The E20-compliant engines have first made it on the Skoda Kushaq and Slavia and will be gradually rolled out to other VW Group cars produced at the Chakan plant.
