This sporty version of the premium SUV is offered as a fully equipped model, available in a single variant. It replaces the previous Volkswagen Tiguan, which was recently removed from the German manufacturer's lineup in India to accommodate this new sporty offering. The Tiguan R-Line is imported into India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU).

With an introductory price of ₹49 lakh (ex-showroom), the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line positions itself against some of the most sought-after luxury SUVs in India, including the Mercedes-Benz GLA, Audi Q3, and BMW X1, among others. Additionally, it competes with the formidable Toyota Fortuner, a perennial favorite in the Indian premium SUV market.

The Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line is offered in one fully equipped variant, with a price tag of ₹49 lakh (ex-showroom and introductory). In contrast, the Toyota Fortuner is available at prices ranging from ₹33.78 lakh to ₹51.94 lakh (ex-showroom). The Fortuner provides a diverse selection of variants, resulting in a broader price spectrum.

Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line vs Toyota Fortuner: Specification 

The 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line retains the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine found in its predecessor, but with enhanced performance capabilities. This engine, combined with a seven-speed DCT automatic transmission, produces a peak power of 201 bhp and a maximum torque of 320 Nm. Power is distributed to all four wheels through an all-wheel-drive system.

In contrast to the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line, the Toyota Fortuner offers two engine choices: petrol and diesel. The diesel variant features a 2.8-litre turbocharged intercooler engine that delivers a peak power of 201 bhp, with maximum torque varying between 420 Nm and 500 Nm, depending on the selected transmission. The diesel Fortuner is available with a six-speed manual gearbox equipped with Intelligent Manual Transmission or a six-speed automatic transmission, and it can be configured with either 2WD or 4WD drivetrains.

The petrol variant of the Toyota Fortuner is powered by a 2.7-litre engine, which generates 164 bhp of peak power and 245 Nm of maximum torque. It offers a choice between a five-speed manual gearbox and a six-speed automatic transmission, and it is equipped with a 2WD system.
