Volvo has provided a preview of its forthcoming ES90 sedan for the international market. The official unveiling of the Volvo ES90 is scheduled for March 5, featuring cutting-edge core computing and AI-enhanced safety technologies. This new all-electric sedan, constructed on the SPA2 platform, is designed to improve through software updates, thereby enhancing both performance and safety over time.

Volvo ES90: AI Integration  

The ES90 will be equipped with a dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin setup, delivering significant computational capabilities. The Orin processor is capable of executing up to 508 trillion operations per second (TOPS), facilitating a range of functions including AI-based safety protocols, sensor management, and battery optimization.

The AI functionalities of the ES90 are anticipated to evolve progressively, with its deep learning model expanding from 40 million to 200 million parameters through ongoing data accumulation and software enhancements.

Volvo ES90: Safety  

The ES90 features Volvo’s Safe Space Technology, which employs lidar, radar, cameras, and ultrasonic sensors to identify obstacles and improve safety. These integrated systems collaborate to offer proactive safety features, including collision avoidance and enhanced detection during nighttime driving.

Volvo ES90: Performance

The ES90 is built on the same platform as the EX90 and is expected to utilize the identical 111 kWh battery pack, which boasts a maximum claimed range of 600 km. Anticipate the introduction of a cost-effective rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variant featuring a single motor, alongside a dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) option. However, details regarding these configurations have yet to be officially confirmed.

Volvo ES90: Superset Technology Framework

The ES90 represents the second model utilizing Volvo’s Superset technology framework, following the EX90. This innovative system combines hardware and software to facilitate over-the-air updates, enhancing connectivity, safety features, and battery performance.

A significant advantage of the Superset technology framework is its capability to provide simultaneous software upgrades across all models built on the platform. This feature ensures that enhancements made for one model can be extended to others, promoting overall improvement.

Volvo ES90: Prospects for the Indian Market

Following its global launch, the Volvo ES90 is likely to be introduced in the Indian market. In India, the ES90 will face competition from models such as the Mercedes-Benz EQE, BMW i5, and the forthcoming Audi A6 e-tron.
