The Defender Octa SUV has been introduced to the Indian market. This model represents a high-performance version of the standard Defender SUV, with a starting price of ₹2.59 crore (ex-showroom). Furthermore, the manufacturer has announced that the exclusive Defender Octa Edition One is available for ₹2.79 crore (ex-showroom).

Although it is based on the Defender 110, this performance-oriented variant incorporates distinctive design features. It offers an elevated ride height for enhanced ground clearance and a broader stance, complemented by extended wheel arches that contribute to its commanding presence on the road. The SUV is also fitted with newly designed bumpers at both the front and rear, which enhance its approach and departure angles.

Land Rover Defender Octa: Exterior and dimensions

The vehicle is designed to provide exceptional underbody protection, enabling drivers to venture further into difficult terrains. It boasts improved water-wading capabilities, allowing it to navigate through water depths of up to one meter. An exclusive exterior paint option in Petra Copper and Faroe Green is available, along with 20-inch forged alloy wheels equipped with all-terrain tires.

The Defender Octa is elevated by 28 mm compared to the standard model and features a wider stance of 68 mm, resulting in a ground clearance of 323 mm and enhanced stability. This model comes with upgraded 400 mm front brake discs, which are paired with Brembo calipers.

A prominent design enhancement for this SUV is the enlarged wheel arches, contributing to its striking stance. The Defender Octa's total ground clearance of 323 mm allows it to handle more demanding and technical off-road challenges, including the ability to wade through one meter of water—100 mm deeper than any other Defender model.

Land Rover Defender Octa: Interior and features

The interior is adorned with Khaki and Ebony Ultrafabrics™ PU, which is reported to be 30 percent lighter than traditional leather. While the interior of the Defender Octa shares similarities with the standard Defender 110, it features a specialized button that enhances off-road capabilities. The Octa mode is specifically engineered to improve traction on loose terrains.

This SUV is equipped with a range of well-known Terrain Response modes designed for various conditions, such as Sand, Mud and Ruts, Grass Gravel Snow, and Rock Crawl, along with off-road assistance technologies like ClearSight Ground View.

Additionally, the manufacturer indicates that the seats in the SUV have been developed in partnership with experts from Subpac and Coventry University, allowing both the driver and front passenger to enjoy music in a tactile manner, complementing the conventional audio experience.

Land Rover Defender Octa: Engine and performance

The latest Defender Octa is reported to enhance the performance of the Defender 110. It is equipped with a robust 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged mild-hybrid V8 engine, positioning the Defender Octa as the most powerful variant to date. This engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that includes both high and low-range gears, producing a peak power of 626 bhp and a maximum torque of 750 Nm. It is claimed that the vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just four seconds.
