Porsche Teases Next-Gen 911 GT2 RS: Everything You Need to Know
1 day ago | 5 Views
Porsche has once again ignited excitement in the automotive community with rumours regarding the upcoming 911 GT2 RS. During its recent annual conference, the German manufacturer announced that a new flagship model for the 911 lineup is under development. Although specific details are limited, this announcement strongly suggests the arrival of a new 992-generation GT2 RS, which would succeed the legendary 991-generation model that was last produced in 2017.
The GT2 designation boasts a storied legacy, originating from the 993 generation of the Porsche 911. Over the years, Porsche has refined this high-performance variant through several generations, culminating in the 991 GT2 RS—a sports coupe delivering 680 bhp that redefined the capabilities of a rear-wheel-drive 911. While the 992 generation has seen the introduction of various high-performance models, including the GT3, GT3 RS, Turbo, Turbo S, Dakar, and S/T, an official GT2 RS variant has yet to be unveiled.
Porsche 911 GT2 RS: Strong indications of new model
Indications of a forthcoming 911 GT2 RS have been emerging for a while. In 2024, a prototype was observed at the Nürburgring, camouflaged with GT3 RS bodywork. Its exhaust sound notably suggested the presence of a turbocharged engine, which supports the likelihood of a high-performance forced-induction powertrain. Furthermore, a screenshot from a German online car sales platform was leaked, displaying a price of €450,000 (approximately ₹4.25 crore) for the new generation sports car. While the validity of the screenshot remains uncertain, it suggests an impending launch.
Porsche 911 GT2 RS: What to expect
The former 911 GT2 RS was equipped with a 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine, generating 680 bhp and 750 Nm of torque. However, due to the swift progress in supercar capabilities in recent years, the forthcoming GT2 RS is anticipated to surpass 739 bhp, positioning it as the most powerful 911 ever produced. Porsche has already announced that its new flagship 911 will "raise the bar even further," signalling that the upcoming GT2 RS is set to establish new performance standards for this legendary sports car.
