The Porsche 911 sports car has experienced two distinct recalls due to safety issues in the North American market. The renowned German luxury automobile manufacturer has recalled a total of 1,157 units of this highly sought-after sports car. Among these, 878 units are from the 2025 model year, while the remainder consists of 2023 models. The recall for the 2025 Porsche 911 is attributed to a malfunctioning software problem that impacts the headlight levelling feature. Conversely, the 2023 Porsche 911 models are being recalled to address a concern related to the rear seat belt buckles.

Headlight issue in 2025 Porsche 911

The 878 units of the 2025 Porsche 911 models are reported to have software malfunctions in the control unit responsible for front-end electronics, which may impact the headlight levelling function. Specifically, when the rear fog light button is engaged and the vehicle is travelling at speeds below 60 km/h, the low beam on the driver's side is lowered by 0.57 degrees. This adjustment could potentially create glare for oncoming drivers and heighten the risk of an accident.

Porsche identified this problem in November 2024 and concluded that the affected vehicles did not meet the necessary photometric standards. The manufacturer plans to rectify the issue by updating the software. Notifications to owners will commence in mid-April 2025, and the software update will be provided at no charge under Porsche's New Car Limited Warranty.

The second recall involves 279 units of the 2023 Porsche 911 models produced between February 17 and September 13, 2023. These affected vehicles are reported to have rear seat belts that are not secured according to design specifications, potentially leading to loosening over time. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall report indicates that an employee error during the manufacturing process resulted in incorrect bolt connections. This defect may cause the bolt connection to detach in the event of a collision, thereby heightening the risk of injury for passengers seated in the rear.
