Kia Syros has emerged as the newest addition to the sub-compact SUV market, representing the second model from the Korean manufacturer in this segment. Positioned above the Sonet, the Syros aims to attract a younger demographic. Notably, its design and configuration distinguish it as a unique contender within the sub-4 metre SUV category.
Although the dimensions of the Syros closely resemble those of the Sonet, it showcases a distinct exterior aesthetic. This model marks the first vehicle produced in India by Kia to incorporate the company’s Design 2.0 philosophy, which was initially introduced with the Kia EV9.
The Syros will be available with both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol variants will utilize the 1.0-litre turbocharged engine from the Sonet, delivering 118 bhp and 172 Nm of torque. Customers can choose between a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The diesel variant features a 1.5-litre engine that generates 116 bhp and 250 Nm of torque, paired with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
Bookings for the Kia Syros have already begun, with the official launch anticipated in February. The sub-compact SUV will be available in six distinct trim levels, each offering a variety of features.
Kia Syros: HTK variant
The Syros range will commence with the HTK trim level. Although it serves as the entry-level option, it is equipped with a substantial array of features. The interior boasts dual-tone grey and black semi-leatherette upholstery. In terms of technology, it includes a 12.30-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless phone connectivity, a reverse camera featuring dynamic guidelines, power-adjustable mirrors and windows, rear air conditioning vents, door curtains, and four Type-C USB charging ports.
Externally, the HTK trim will feature 15-inch steel wheels with black wheel covers, halogen headlights, a shark fin antenna, and silver skid plates at both the front and rear. The base variant of the Syros will exclusively offer a petrol engine paired with a six-speed manual transmission.
Kia Syros: HTK (O) variant
The Kia Syros HTK (O), positioned as the second trim level above the base model, introduces several enhancements. Notable additions include a single-pane sunroof, rear window shades, a height-adjustable driver's seat, and a pocket on the passenger-side seat back. Externally, the HTK (O) features 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and auto-folding power-adjustable mirrors. A significant upgrade offered by the HTK (O) compared to the base variant is the availability of a diesel engine. Both petrol and diesel engine options are exclusively paired with a six-speed manual transmission in the HTK (O) trim.
Kia Syros: HTK Plus variant
The HTK Plus variant of the Syros introduces a panoramic sunroof, complemented by a dual-tone upholstery in blue and grey, as well as a split-folding rear seat that includes a reclining feature. This trim is notable for being the first in the Syros lineup to provide an automatic transmission option in addition to the manual gearbox. The SUV is equipped with a 1.0-litre GDi turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. It is important to note that the automatic transmission is available exclusively with the petrol engine in the HTK Plus variant. Additionally, the automatic variant is enhanced with features such as a push start-stop button, a follow-me-home function for the headlights, various driving modes, and an electric parking brake.
Kia Syros: HTX variant
The HTX variant of the Kia Syros is equipped with LED headlights and LED taillights. Inside the cabin, it boasts a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear shifter. Additional features comprise ventilated front seats, one-touch up and down operation for all windows, and a rear wiper. Furthermore, the automatic transmission version of this trim includes a paddle shifter.
Kia Syros: HTX Plus variant
The HTX+ variant represents the second-highest trim level of the Kia Syros SUV. It is equipped with features such as 17-inch alloy wheels, puddle lamps, a dual-tone grey and orange interior design, aluminium pedals, 64-color ambient lighting, a fully digital instrument cluster, climate control, a Harman Kardon audio system, an air purifier, and a dashcam. Furthermore, it includes ventilated rear seats, an automatic interior rearview mirror, and a wireless phone charger. In terms of safety, it is fitted with rear disc brakes. The HTX+ variant is exclusively offered with a six-speed automatic transmission for the diesel engine and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission for the petrol engine.
Kia Syros: HTX Plus (O) variant
The premium Kia Syros HTX Plus (O) incorporates several enhancements compared to the HTX Plus model. The most significant upgrade is the inclusion of level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and a 360-degree surround view camera, which are not present in the HTX+ trim. Furthermore, similar to the HTX+ variant, it is exclusively offered with a six-speed automatic transmission for the diesel engine and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) for the petrol engine.
