1 month ago | 5 Views
Mercedes-Benz, the renowned German luxury automobile manufacturer, is set to expand its electric vehicle lineup by transforming three of its most sought-after models into electric variants over the next two years. The company has officially announced that the E-Class and C-Class sedans, along with the GLC crossover, will be available in electric versions by 2027. This initiative will commence in March of this year with the unveiling of the CLA EV, while the electric versions of the E-Class and GLC crossover are slated for a later release.
This latest push into the electric vehicle market comes in response to a significant decline in sales, which fell by over 23 percent compared to 2023. In 2024, Mercedes-Benz reported global sales of just over 185,000 electric vehicles. The automaker has ambitious plans to launch a total of 17 new electric models by the end of 2027.
Once these models are introduced in international markets, it is anticipated that Mercedes-Benz will also bring them to India at a subsequent date. Currently, the company offers seven electric vehicles in India, including the EQA, EQB, EQE, EQS SUVs, EQS sedan, and the electric G-Wagon, which debuted in January of this year.
Mercedes C-Class EV:
Regarding the C-Class EV, during the announcement of its financial results for 2024, Mercedes-Benz revealed that it will initiate its new electric vehicle strategy with the C-Class electric sedan this year, which is expected to make its global debut in March. Reports indicate that the CLA EV will be based on the third-generation model and will be available alongside its internal combustion engine counterpart.
The CLA EV will feature an 800-volt electrical architecture, enabling 320 kW DC fast charging capabilities. The manufacturer has previously stated that the CLA EV could achieve a range of up to 750 kilometers on a single charge. Further details about this upcoming electric sedan will be disclosed in the coming days.
Mercedes E-Class EV:
The electric variant of the E-Class sedan is among the most eagerly awaited releases from the German automotive manufacturer. The company has indicated that the forthcoming E-Class EV will distinguish itself from the EQE currently available in international markets. As per the manufacturer's statements, the new E-Class EV will be larger and superior to its internal combustion engine (ICE) equivalent, providing an enhanced seating experience.
