German luxury automobile manufacturer Mercedes-Benz is poised to commence the New Year with the introduction of its priciest electric vehicle in India. The G-Wagon electric SUV, derived from the renowned G-Class SUV, is scheduled for launch on January 9 of the upcoming year. Initially unveiled as the EQG concept at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) earlier this year in Las Vegas, this model is based on the G 580 variant and will utilize a ladder-frame chassis.
Mercedes-Benz opened bookings for the electric G-Wagon SUV in July of the previous year. It will be imported into India as a complete unit (CBU), indicating that it will be fully assembled abroad. With anticipated pricing exceeding ₹3 crore, Mercedes will likely offer the electric G-Class SUV in limited quantities or restrict the number of units available for sale each year in India.
Mercedes Electric G-Wagon: Range and Battery
The electric G-Wagon SUV will be powered by a 116kWh battery pack. The manufacturer has previously confirmed that the battery can be charged at rates of up to 200kW, allowing for an 80 per cent charge from a 10 per cent state in approximately thirty minutes. Additionally, the battery is expected to support a lower charging capacity of 11kW. Mercedes claims that the vehicle will provide a range of over 470 kilometres on a single charge.
Mercedes Electric G-Class: Features
As the most expensive option in the luxury electric SUV market, the electric G-Class is anticipated to be equipped with a plethora of luxurious features. It will include a dual-screen 12.3-inch infotainment system and driver display, compatible with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, in addition to the manufacturer’s proprietary connected app. Other features will encompass ADAS technology, a 360-degree camera, a Burmester sound system, and entertainment screens for rear passengers.
Mercedes Electric G-Class: Performance
The electric G-Class will be driven by four electric motors and will incorporate the manufacturer’s all-wheel-drive system, remaining true to its heritage as a performance-oriented vehicle. Each electric motor will be dedicated to enhancing the driving experience.
