Mercedes-Benz has introduced a limited edition of its G-Class, celebrating the SUV's roots from the 1980s. The "G-Class Edition STRONGER THAN THE 1980s" is a special release of just 460 units globally, marking the production of the 500,000th G-Class in 2023.
This edition comes in two models: the G 450 d and the G 500. While they boast modern engineering and comfort, the design pays homage to the early W 460 series. The special G-Class is available in three classic colors—agave green, cream, and Colorado beige—each reflecting the original palette from four decades ago.
To enhance the retro vibe, the vehicle features traditional orange turn signals and blacked-out elements like bumpers, grille, and mirror caps, echoing the rugged appearance of its predecessor. It also sports a 5-spoke alloy wheel to complement the vintage aesthetic. Additional unique touches include a bonnet badge inspired by the classic Mercedes emblem and a spare wheel cap that resembles the original design.
This edition also includes features from Mercedes' PROFESSIONAL Line to enhance its off-road capabilities, such as protective headlamp grilles, mud flaps at both the front and rear, and all-terrain tires. An optional roof rack, along with black Manufaktur logos and "G – STRONGER THAN TIME" projection headlights, further distinguishes its identity.
Mercedes-Benz G-Class Edition: A Nod to the 1980s with a Retro-Inspired Interior
The special edition keeps its tribute vibe alive on the inside. It features black leather paired with dove grey fabric inserts and a touch of 1980s flair. You’ll find a "STRONGER THAN THE 1980s" message on the passenger grab handle, while the doors showcase topographic designs of the Schöckl mountain, a classic testing site for the G-Class.
Each vehicle comes with a unique “1 of 460" badge on the center console and a vintage-style “Schöckl Proved" emblem on the B-pillar. The interior is also equipped with modern amenities, including a multifunction Nappa leather steering wheel, a glass sunroof, and a Burmester 3D surround sound system. This G-Class edition, aimed at collectors, is now up for orders, starting at €160,055 (around ₹1.55 crore).
