Mercedes-Benz has provided a preview of its forthcoming electric SUV, the GLC with EQ Efficiency. Currently, this model is undergoing testing in cold weather conditions in Sweden. Upon its release, the electric SUV is expected to rival the Tesla Model Y. The German luxury automaker has shared a series of images showcasing the camouflaged prototype of the 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Efficiency.
The GLC will be the second electric vehicle from the brand to feature the new EV nomenclature, following the rugged G580 equipped with EQ technology. Notably, the GLC with EQ technology will be the first model to utilize the brand's innovative MB.EA architecture which has been specifically engineered for the next generation of Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles.
Mercedes-Benz GLC EQ: Powertrain Details
Built on a dedicated electric vehicle platform that will also support the upcoming C-Class sedan EV and the compact G-Class SUV, both set to debut in 2026, the new GLC EV will be the first to incorporate Mercedes-Benz's eATS 2.0 powertrain.
The base variant will feature a rear-wheel-drive configuration powered by a single 200 kW electric motor, while the higher-end model will be equipped with a dual motor system that distributes power to all four wheels. The flagship variant will boast a 360 kW electric powertrain. The upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLC EQ will be powered by a substantial 94.5 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery pack, enabling the electric SUV to achieve a range of up to 650 kilometers on a full charge.
Mercedes-Benz has indicated that the new GLC EV will include a dual-speed transmission and a front drive unit that can be quickly engaged or disengaged as needed for additional traction. This feature will allow the GLC to operate primarily in two-wheel drive, thereby enhancing efficiency and extending its range.
Mercedes-Benz GLC EQ: Key rivals
The newly introduced GLC EV serves as an indirect successor to the Mercedes-Benz EQC, which was discontinued two years prior. At its debut, the GLC EV will compete with rivals, including the Audi Q6 e-tron and the Porsche Macan EV. Mercedes-Benz is expected to unveil the GLC EV at the Munich Motor Show in September 2025, with an anticipated launch in the Indian market in 2026.
