Maruti Suzuki's e Vitara, the highly anticipated electric SUV in India, has officially made its debut at the Auto Expo 2025. Set to launch in March 2025, the e Vitara marks Maruti Suzuki's inaugural entry into the electric vehicle market. The company aims to secure a leading position in the Indian electric passenger vehicle sector with this model; however, it faces stiff competition from established rivals such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6, and MG ZS EV, among others.

The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara has begun arriving at dealerships in preparation for its upcoming launch. For those considering the purchase of the e Vitara but still undecided, there are several alternative options worth exploring.

Hyundai Creta Electric

Earlier this year, Hyundai introduced the Creta Electric, a fully electric version of its popular SUV. This model is equipped with advanced technology and a host of features, including a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, ventilated front seats, an eight-way electrically adjustable driver's seat with memory function, and a boss mode for the co-driver's seat. It also boasts dual 10.25-inch displays that integrate the infotainment system and instrument cluster, an eight-speaker Bose audio system, and ambient lighting. The Creta Electric offers two battery pack options: 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh, providing a range of 390 km and 473 km, respectively, depending on the chosen battery. The pricing for the Hyundai Creta Electric ranges from ₹17.99 lakh to ₹24.38 lakh (ex-showroom).

Tata Curvv EV

The Tata Curvv EV distinguishes itself with its unique coupe SUV design, marking its status as the first electric coupe SUV in the mass-market segment within the country. It offers two battery pack options, 45 kWh and 55 kWh, providing impressive driving ranges of 502 km and 585 km, respectively, on a full charge. The vehicle is equipped with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a wireless phone charger, a panoramic sunroof, and ambient lighting features. The Tata Curvv EV was introduced alongside the Tata Curvv ICE, which shares a similar design aesthetic. The pricing for the Curvv EV ranges from ₹17.49 lakh to ₹21.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

Mahindra BE 6

Mahindra has recently made significant strides in the electric vehicle market with the introduction of the BE 6 and XEV 9e. The BE 6 is positioned as a more budget-friendly electric SUV in comparison to the XEV 9e and serves as Mahindra's response to the Tata Curvv EV. Featuring a distinctive coupe SUV design, the BE 6 is priced between ₹18.90 lakh and ₹26.90 lakh (ex-showroom). Notably, it is the sole competitor to the forthcoming Maruti Suzuki e Vitara and other models in this category that offers a rear-wheel-drive powertrain. Additionally, it boasts the largest battery pack options available, with capacities of 59 kWh and 79 kWh, enabling a driving range of up to 557 km and 683 km, depending on the selected battery pack.

MG ZS

JSW MG Motor India may not dominate the Indian electric passenger vehicle market, yet it remains a significant contender with a diverse lineup that includes models such as the Comet EV, Windsor EV, and ZS EV. The MG ZS EV serves as a competitive option against the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara. Equipped with a 50.3 kWh battery, the ZS EV boasts an impressive range of up to 461 km on a single charge. A distinctive feature of the MG ZS is its battery-as-a-subscription (BaaS) program. Under this scheme, the price of the MG ZS ranges from ₹13.99 lakh to ₹20.76 lakh (ex-showroom), whereas the cost without the BaaS option falls between ₹18.98 lakh and ₹26.64 lakh (ex-showroom). The ZS EV is also equipped with a variety of features, including a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, a six-way powered driver seat, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, a wireless phone charger, and a six-speaker audio system.
