Leading Indian automobile manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki India has verified the impending launch of yet another SUV in its range. During a recent media briefing, RC Bhargava, Chairman of Maruti Suzuki India, disclosed that the company will introduce an additional SUV besides the highly awaited Maruti Suzuki e Vitara within the financial year 2025-26.

Although the company has not specified which SUV it will be, it is expected that the new model will be a seven-seater variant of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. Until 2022, the carmaker’s lineup was primarily composed of small vehicles with just one SUV in its collection; however, following the launch of the Grand Vitara, Maruti Suzuki has been placing significant emphasis on SUVs. The current lineup of the company features a total of five SUVs.

New Maruti SUV: What to expect

The company has recently aimed at establishing itself as a mass premium contender in the market. Thus, it is anticipated that the new SUV from Maruti Suzuki will be marketed through its Nexa channel. The new model is expected to be positioned between the Grand Vitara and the Maruti Suzuki Invicto.

The new model is primarily based on the Grand Vitara platform, so it is anticipated to share most components with the compact SUV, including the powertrain. Therefore, there will be a 1. 5-litre, four-cylinder mild hybrid petrol engine delivering 120 bhp and 137 Nm. It will be paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Conversely, the 3-cylinder 1. 5-litre strong hybrid engine produces 113 bhp and 122 Nm. This engine will be paired exclusively with an eCVT automatic transmission. Currently, it is unknown if an all-wheel drive and a CNG powertrain will be available.

While the internal components might remain unchanged, the spy images have indicated that the new SUV will feature a different design from the Grand Vitara. There will be a new rear-end design with a fresh set of LED tail lamps, a redesigned rear bumper, and a new overhang. Furthermore, the wheelbase is expected to be extended to provide additional cabin space, and there is also a chance that the rear doors will be elongated to facilitate easier access.
