Maruti Suzuki Dzire Achieves Remarkable 3 Million Production Milestone
2 months ago | 5 Views
Sedans have experienced their rise and fall over the years, yet one particular model has remained a constant presence. The Maruti Suzuki Dzire has proven resilient, with no SUV—be it compact, sub-compact, or mid-size—able to dethrone it from its leading position. Earlier this year, the Dzire underwent a significant update and has now achieved the remarkable milestone of 3 million units produced. A steadfast member of India’s best-selling car segment, the Maruti Dzire has remained unaffected by the numerous changes in the Indian automotive landscape since its introduction in March 2008.
Since its launch, the Maruti Dzire has traversed countless miles. Initially, it featured a 1.3-litre petrol engine and a 1.3-litre diesel engine sourced from Fiat, paired exclusively with a five-speed manual transmission. At that time, amenities such as a stereo system, steering-mounted audio controls, and dual airbags were considered impressive. However, the enduring appeal of the Dzire can largely be attributed to its spacious interior and ample boot space, combined with dependable driving performance.
The first million production milestone for the Maruti Dzire was achieved in April 2015, followed by the second million in June 2019. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic in subsequent years, the sedan has continued to perform robustly. “We are profoundly thankful to our customers for their unwavering trust, which has been instrumental in reaching the 3 million production milestone for the Maruti Suzuki Dzire," stated Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited. “Their feedback and support motivate us to consistently enhance and innovate, ensuring that the Dzire surpasses their expectations."
There were also anticipations that the Dzire would update its seven-year-old third-generation features, which had begun to appear outdated. The second generation was launched in 2012, followed by the third generation in 2017. Consequently, the fourth-generation model was introduced in November of this year. While the Dzire was previously perceived as merely a Swift with an extended trunk, that perception has now changed.
2024 Maruti Suzuki Dzire: Key highlights
The Dzire has undergone considerable evolution from its first to fourth generation. Currently, it presents a more refined and aesthetically pleasing appearance than ever before. The features offered are standard for its class, and it is equipped with the new 1.2-litre three-cylinder Z series petrol engine. Notably, it has achieved the distinction of being the first Maruti Suzuki vehicle to receive a five-star crash rating in Global NCAP assessments.
2024 Maruti Suzuki Dzire: Relevance in the Indian car market
Historically, the Dzire has faced vigorous competition from vehicles such as the Hyundai Xcent and Volkswagen Ameo. Currently, it competes with models like the Honda Amaze, Tata Tigor, and Hyundai Aura. However, it is widely acknowledged that the Dzire significantly outpaces other sedans in its category, making the competition seem less relevant.
In contrast, the fourth-generation Dzire appears to be more focused on contending with a new wave of sub-compact SUVs that are priced similarly. The latest iteration of the Dzire is available at a price range of ₹6.80 lakh to ₹10.14 lakh (ex-showroom). Competing SUV-like models within this price bracket include the Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Maruti's own Fronx, Hyundai Exter, and Tata Punch.
