Maruti Dzire Hybrid Debuts in Philippines: Is India Next?

7 days ago | 5 Views

The fourth-generation Maruti Suzuki Dzire, which debuted in India in November 2024, has now made its entrance in the Philippines. While the compact sedan shares most features with its Indian counterpart, a significant distinction exists: the Philippine version is equipped with a hybrid powertrain, a feature absent in the Indian model.

Offered in two trim levels, GL and GLX, priced at PHP 920,000 and PHP 998,000 (approximately ₹13.9 lakh and ₹15.08 lakh), both variants come with the hybrid powertrain. This system consists of a 1.2-liter inline-3 gasoline engine combined with a 12-volt hybrid setup, delivering a total output of 82 bhp and 112 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a continuously variable transmission.

The same engine is also utilized in the Maruti Suzuki Swift in Japan. Notably, Maruti Suzuki has been conducting tests on the Swift with this powertrain in India, alongside advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) technology. The Swift Hybrid may be undergoing testing as a platform to refine the automaker's ADAS offerings.

What else has changed on the Philippines specced Suzuki Dzire?

The Philippine version of the Suzuki Dzire closely resembles the model available in India. The base GL variant is derived from the VXI trim, while the GLX is based on the ZXI Plus variant sold in India. Regarding color options, the Philippine model is available in all shades except Nutmeg Brown and Bluish Black.

There are a few distinctions between the models available in the two countries. The most significant difference is that the model in the Philippines is designed for left-hand driving, while the Indian version is configured for right-hand driving. Additionally, the Philippine model does not feature a sunroof, which is included in the Indian variant.

Aside from these variations, the specifications remain consistent. The top-tier GLX trim offered in the Philippines is equipped with a 9-inch free-standing infotainment display, push-button ignition, keyless entry, cruise control, automatic climate control, rear air conditioning vents, alloy wheels, LED headlights, fog lights, LED taillights, a chrome beltline, and more.
