Ola Electric has introduced its Roadster X electric motorcycle lineup in India, marking the company's entry into the electric motorcycle segment with the Roadster X and Roadster X+ models. The manufacturer anticipates that the Roadster X series will significantly enhance the adoption of electric vehicles in the country in the coming years.

Historically, the Indian electric vehicle market has been primarily characterized by electric two-wheelers, with electric scooters dominating this segment. Although there has been a growing interest in electric motorcycles, the variety of available options has been limited, with most existing models positioned in the premium category. The Ola Roadster X series, however, targets the more affordable commuter segment, which is expected to catalyze further expansion in the Indian electric two-wheeler market. This strategic focus is why Ola Electric is making substantial investments in its newly launched electric motorcycles.

In India, motorcycles account for approximately two-thirds of total two-wheeler sales, while scooters represent the remaining share. Despite this, the majority of electric two-wheelers sold in the country are scooters. Ola Electric estimates that electric vehicles constitute around 20 percent of scooter sales, but less than one percent of motorcycle sales.

According to reports from Reuters, Bhavish Aggarwal, the founder and Chairman of Ola Electric, has expressed confidence that electric motorcycles will achieve penetration levels comparable to those of scooters in a relatively short timeframe. He noted, "It took 3-1/2 years to reach 20 percent EV penetration for scooters; with motorcycles, we expect to achieve this in half or two-thirds the time."

The company is optimistic that the Roadster X series will accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in the Indian two-wheeler market, driven by increased consumer awareness and the development of a supportive ecosystem. Ola Electric's leadership believes that heightened awareness of electric vehicles, coupled with a robust sales and service infrastructure, will facilitate the growth of electric motorcycle adoption.

Ola Roadster X series to start reaching consumers next month

Deliveries of the Ola Roadster X and Roadster X+ electric motorcycles are expected to begin by mid-March of this year. The Ola Roadster X is offered in three variants, which vary based on the battery pack options. The available battery pack configurations for the Roadster X include 2.5 kWh, 3.5 kWh, and 4.5 kWh. The pricing for the Roadster X series ranges from ₹75,000 to ₹95,000 (introductory and ex-showroom). In contrast, the Roadster X+ is available in two variants, featuring battery pack options of 4.5 kWh and 9.1 kWh.
