Mahindra is poised to enhance its global passenger vehicle operations. To achieve this, the Indian automotive powerhouse aims to expand its reach into additional international markets with the introduction of new models. In addition to being a significant player in the Indian passenger vehicle sector, Mahindra also maintains a robust presence in the global market. The Mumbai-based automotive leader is now focused on gradually scaling its business on an international level. In the initial phase, the company intends to utilize its established distribution networks across various overseas markets.
Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director and CEO of Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) for the automotive and agricultural sectors emphasized the company's commitment to innovative products, including the Scorpio N-based lifestyle pickup truck, which was introduced globally as the Mahindra Global Pik Up, along with a new lineup of electric vehicles aimed at entering new international markets. Jejurikar informed PTI that Mahindra has commenced sales of the Scorpio pickup in regions such as South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Morocco, and Chile, where it has developed a solid distribution framework. "These markets now allow us to introduce models such as the XUV 700, Scorpio N, and XUV 3XO," he remarked.
Furthermore, the Mahindra representative indicated that during the first phase of the global expansion strategy, the company plans to launch products in existing markets where it has introduced vehicles over the past three to four years. The second phase will involve the rollout of the global lifestyle pickup, designed for both right-hand and left-hand drive markets. "This will facilitate entry into new markets; for instance, the ASEAN region represents a significant pickup market where we currently lack a presence," Jejurikar noted.
Mahindra Global Pik Up may commence production in 2027
Mahindra presented the Scorpio-based Global Pik Up truck concept in 2023, with production anticipated to commence in 2027. This initiative is part of Mahindra's strategy to penetrate the international lifestyle pickup segment. Jejurikar also indicated that the next phase of expanding its global presence will involve the introduction of electric SUVs in various right-hand drive markets.
Recently, Mahindra launched the XEV 9e and BE 6 in India. Prior to expanding internationally with these electric SUVs, the company intends to strengthen its offerings in the domestic market. Jejurikar remarked, "If we receive a favourable response in right-hand drive markets, we will also consider entering left-hand drive markets with our born electric range."
