Mahindra and Mahindra, the Indian automotive manufacturer, has advanced its electrification initiative by unveiling two new electric vehicles: the Mahindra BE 6 and the Mahindra XEV 9e. Both electric SUVs were launched in November 2024, with starting prices set at ₹18.90 lakh and ₹21.90 lakh, respectively.
The newly introduced Mahindra XEV 9e and Mahindra BE 6e represent the inaugural offerings from the company's electric vehicle-exclusive sub-brands, XEV and Born Electric (BE). Notably, although these SUVs target distinct consumer segments, their pricing overlaps. The Mahindra XEV 9e begins at ₹21.90 lakh, which coincides with the mid-spec Mahindra BE 6 Pack Two, also priced at ₹21.90 lakh. Below is a comparative overview of the two SUVs, both priced at approximately ₹22 lakh.
Mahindra BE 6 vs Mahindra XEV 9e: Features
The Mahindra XEV 9e Pack One boasts an impressive array of features for its price of ₹21.90 lakh. The base variant includes illuminated logos at both the front and rear, bi-LED headlamps, and LED taillights. Additionally, the XEV 9e Pack One is equipped with 19-inch wheels featuring aero covers.
Inside, the base variant of the XEV 9e offers fabric upholstery, while higher trim levels are available with leather upholstery. Furthermore, the XEV 9e Pack One features a triple 12.3-inch screen configuration powered by Mahindra's Adrenox software. This setup encompasses a touchscreen infotainment system, a driver's display, and a co-passenger display. Similar to the BE 6e, the XEV 9e Pack One's infotainment system supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, is driven by a Qualcomm chipset, and comes pre-loaded with shopping, news, and OTT applications, along with built-in Alexa. It also includes various connected features such as cabin pre-cooling and scheduled charging, complemented by a sound system consisting of four speakers and twin tweeters.
The XEV 9e Pack One is equipped with features such as automatic headlamps and wipers, a push-button start/stop system, cooled storage in the console, rear air conditioning vents, a 60:40 split configuration for the rear seats, and 65W USB-C ports located in both the front and rear, among other amenities.
In terms of safety, it is fitted with disc brakes on all four wheels utilizing brake-by-wire technology, a rear parking sensor complemented by a high-definition camera, an electronic parking brake, and a driver drowsiness detection sensor, to highlight a few key features.
Conversely, the Mahindra BE 6 Pack Two is also priced at ₹21.90 Lakh, ex-showroom. Despite being the mid-spec variant, it offers a wide array of features. Externally, the Mahindra BE 6 Pack Two includes sequential turn indicators, a start-up lighting sequence, front fog lamps, cornering lamps, and auto booster lamps. Additionally, this variant is equipped with front parking sensors.
Inside, the cabin boasts soft fabric upholstery. This electric vehicle is outfitted with a 16-speaker Harman-Kardon audio system featuring Dolby Atmos, an NFC key for keyless entry, rear air conditioning vents, and a rear parcel shelf. Regarding safety and driver assistance, the BE 6 incorporates Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which utilizes one radar and one camera to enhance driving support, including adaptive cruise control.
Mahindra BE 6 vs Mahindra XEV 9e: Specs and range
When comparing the Mahindra BE 6 and the Mahindra XEV 9e, both base variants are powered by a 59 kWh battery pack that drives a 228 bhp electric motor located on the rear axle, generating 380 Nm of torque. These two electric SUVs are capable of fast charging, achieving a 20-80 percent charge in just 20 minutes with a 175 kW DC fast charger. Mahindra asserts that the 59 kWh battery pack can provide a range of 535 km for the BE 6, while the XEV 9e, utilizing the same battery pack, offers a claimed range of 542 km.
