Mahindra BE 6 Electric SUV Stalls Following Minor Collision: Insights on Sensor Damage
2 months ago | 5 Views
The question of whether modern cars, replete with advanced features, represent a benefit or a drawback has sparked considerable discussion. This debate was ignited following an incident involving a Mahindra BE 6 electric SUV, which reportedly stalled after a minor collision in Hyderabad last week. The owner of the BE 6 claimed that the vehicle's sensors were damaged during the accident, leading to the stall. A video capturing the event gained significant traction online, prompting netizens to question whether vehicles equipped with contemporary technology are more susceptible to malfunctions compared to traditional cars. In response, Mahindra has refuted this notion through an official clarification.
The Mahindra BE 6 is among the two newest electric vehicles introduced by the manufacturer in November of the previous year. This electric SUV is priced between ₹18.90 lakh and ₹26.90 lakh (ex-showroom) and is available with either a 59 kWh or a 79 kWh battery, offering a range of up to 682 kilometres on a single charge. It has attracted the interest of potential buyers due to its numerous advanced features, including level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), a Head-up Display (HuD), and Auto Park Assist with remote control, among others.
Mahindra BE 6 accident: What happened
Reports indicate that the Mahindra BE 6 featured in the viral video was involved in a minor collision when a Datsun vehicle rear-ended the electric SUV. Photographs reveal that the front bumper and headlight of the Datsun sustained damage, while the BE 6 exhibited only minor scratches on its rear bumper. The owner of the Datsun was able to drive the damaged vehicle to a service station, whereas the driver of the BE 6 was unable to move the electric vehicle.
A user on Reddit commented, “The Mahindra BE6 shows no visible damage and demonstrates excellent build quality. There are merely minor scratches at the site of impact. The Datsun, however, suffered damage to its sensors and became completely immobilized. Now, consider being in traffic when someone rear-ends you, and you find yourself stuck in a 'Fighter Jet Cabin' while others glare at you for obstructing the flow of traffic.”
Mahindra BE 6 accident: Carmaker issues clarification
Mahindra has provided clarification regarding the recent incident. The automobile manufacturer has dismissed allegations that the BE 6's malfunctioning sensors caused it to stall post-accident. In a statement released by the company, it asserts, “We firmly state that these allegations are unfounded and inaccurate. The vehicle's halt was not associated with any sensor malfunction as suggested in the video. After the collision, the car was promptly relocated to the roadside, clearly indicating its operational status. In light of the collision, the vehicle was suitably taken to the dealership for a thorough examination.”
Mahindra BE 6 safety features
The Mahindra BE 6 has been recognized as one of the safest electric vehicles in India, having attained a five-star safety rating in the Bharat NCAP crash tests conducted last week. This electric SUV is constructed with a high-strength bodyshell to ensure superior safety. It is equipped with seven airbags, all-wheel disc brakes featuring brake-by-wire technology, and a brake booster. Additionally, it includes a level 2+ Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite, which encompasses a wide array of safety features, including front collision warning, driver-initiated automatic lane change, lane centering, emergency steering assist, blind spot detection, cross-traffic alerts, and automatic emergency braking.
