JSW MG Motor India introduced a range of new products at the Auto Expo 2025, alongside the launch of a new brand named iM. The abbreviation iM stands for 'Intelligent Mobility,' representing an electric vehicle-exclusive brand established in 2020 by SAIC Motor, the parent company of MG, in partnership with e-commerce leader Alibaba and research and development specialists from Zhangjiang Hi-Tech.
The iM 5 electric sedan made its inaugural appearance at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, forming part of MG's offerings. Previously, this electric vehicle was showcased to the public at the 2024 Geneva Auto Show and is set to be available for purchase in Europe next year.
The design of the MG iM 5 prioritizes aerodynamics, featuring LED headlights integrated into a projector unit and a bonnet that narrows towards the front. The blanked-off grille and black C-shaped air intakes on the bumper provide a striking visual contrast.
This sedan is fitted with flush door handles and 19-inch black alloy wheels, with an option to upgrade to 20-inch wheels. At the rear, it boasts a wave-pattern LED light bar set against a black strip. A distinctive feature is a pixelated display panel capable of conveying custom messages to other road users.
MG iM 5: Cabin and features
The interior of the MG iM 5 showcases a futuristic design, incorporating elements such as a yoke-style steering wheel reminiscent of certain international models from Tesla and Lexus. The cabin is equipped with a large touchscreen that merges the instrument cluster with a passenger display. The layout is further enhanced by slim AC vents and a central control screen.
The vehicle features a dual-display configuration, comprising a 26.3-inch touchscreen and a 15.5-inch display for passengers, in addition to a 10.5-inch central screen for supplementary controls. Notable amenities include a 21-speaker audio system, ambient lighting with 256 color options, dual-zone climate control, a powered tailgate, and two wireless phone chargers equipped with cooling capabilities. Furthermore, the car is designed with a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function and includes electrically adjustable outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs) that offer heating, memory settings, and automatic tilt for reversing.
Regarding safety, the iM 5 is outfitted with six airbags, a 360-degree camera system, and 3-point seatbelts for all occupants. It also incorporates Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which provide features such as forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking.
