The passenger electric vehicle market experienced significant growth in 2024, marked by the introduction of numerous new models. Among these, the MG Windsor EV stood out, launching at a starting price of ₹9.99 lakh with a battery-as-a-service (BaaS) option, while the price without BaaS began at ₹13.50 lakh.

Recently, the company has raised the prices of all variants by ₹50,000. In parallel, Tata Motors, a key competitor to the Windsor EV, also adjusted the pricing of the Tata Nexon EV starting in January 2025, implementing a 3 percent increase across its entire vehicle lineup.

Currently, Tata Motors commands approximately 65 percent of the Indian electric passenger vehicle market, with the Nexon EV serving as the primary revenue generator for the brand. Although the Tata Nexon EV has been the top-selling electric vehicle in India since its debut, the Windsor EV has quickly gained traction, primarily due to its compelling value proposition. However, the recent price adjustments may alter the competitive landscape. Below is a comparison of the Tata Nexon EV and MG Windsor EV.

MG Windsor EV vs Tata Nexon EV: Price

The MG Windsor EV is offered in three variants: Excite, Exclusive, and Essence. The base price for the EV with BaaS previously started at ₹9.99 lakh, with a cost of ₹3.5 per kilometer. Following the price increase, while the base prices remain unchanged, the BaaS cost has risen to ₹3.9 per kilometer. For those opting for the EV without BaaS, each variant's price has increased by ₹50,000.

The Excite variant is now priced at ₹13,99,800, the Exclusive variant at ₹14,99,800, and the top-tier Essence variant at ₹15,99,800, all ex-showroom. Additionally, the complimentary charging option through the MG e-hub application has been discontinued.

The Tata Nexon EV has experienced a price increase of 3 percent across its range, with the exception of the base variant. Consequently, the entry-level model of the Tata Nexon EV remains priced at ₹12.49 lakh, ex-showroom, while the top variant is now available for ₹16.99 lakh. Additionally, the Nexon EV has introduced the Red Dark edition, which is priced at ₹17.19 lakh.

MG Windsor EV vs Tata Nexon EV: Powertrain

In terms of powertrain specifications, the MG Windsor EV is equipped with a single 38 kWh battery pack, delivering a peak power of 134 bhp and a maximum torque of 200 Nm. This electric vehicle offers a range of up to 331 kilometers on a single charge.

Conversely, the Tata Nexon EV is offered with two distinct battery pack options. The MR variant features a 30 kWh battery pack, producing 127.3 bhp of peak power and 215 Nm of maximum torque, with a range of up to 275 km and an acceleration time of 0-100 km/h in 9.2 seconds.

The Nexon EV 45 variant, on the other hand, generates 142 bhp of peak power and maintains the same maximum torque of 215 Nm. It boasts a range of up to 489 km on a fully charged battery and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds.
