Kia has introduced the Syros SUV in India as of December, marking the company's intention to establish a new category of SUVs that bridges the gap between sub-four metre and compact models. The official launch of the Syros SUV is scheduled for next month, with bookings commencing on January 3, 2025. Following its unveiling on December 19, deliveries are expected to begin in February of the upcoming year. The Syros features a boxy design and is positioned as a premium SUV, boasting more advanced features than many competitors in higher segments. Notably, it includes features that are not available in the Seltos SUV.

In terms of dimensions, the Syros is slightly larger than the Sonet and shares similarities with the Seltos in various aspects. With a width of 1,800 mm, it matches the Seltos and surpasses the Sonet in width. Additionally, it has a longer wheelbase compared to the sub-compact SUV. Measuring just under four metres in length, the Syros will compete in the sub-compact SUV market, where the Kia Sonet is already established alongside other models such as the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, and Skoda Kushaq. However, with the Syros, Kia aims to attract a younger, more premium customer base compared to the Sonet.

Kia Syros vs Seltos: Five features that separate the SUVs

The Syros SUV is designed to provide exceptional comfort and features for customers within the ₹10 lakh to ₹20 lakh price range. Kia has opted for a distinctive design language for the Syros, which clearly differentiates it from other models in both the sub-compact and compact categories. A notable design feature exclusive to the Syros, which is not found in the Seltos, is the flush-mounted door handles. This feature is unique in the compact segment, with the exception of the Tata Curvv and Curvv EV.

Another advantage of the Syros over the Seltos is the inclusion of ventilated seats in the second row. This marks the first instance of a vehicle in the compact segment or lower offering seat ventilation for all passengers. In contrast, both the Sonet and Seltos SUVs provide this feature only for the driver and front passenger.

Additionally, the Syros boasts reclining rear seats with a sliding function, a feature that the Seltos and other vehicles in the segment lack. While reclining rear seats are relatively common in the compact segment, sliding rear seats are rare. This feature enhances legroom for rear passengers and adds to their comfort, while also allowing for increased luggage space in the boot, which can extend up to 465 liters with all seats in use.

Furthermore, the Syros is distinguished by its impressive 30-inch display, which integrates both the infotainment screen and the driver display, each measuring 12.5 inches. There is also a supplementary five-inch screen dedicated to climate control. In comparison, the Seltos features a dual-screen setup that is significantly smaller than that of the Syros.

Lastly, the Syros introduces a turbo petrol engine with a manual transmission option. It is equipped with a 1.0-liter turbo petrol engine paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, marking the first time a Kia SUV has offered a turbo petrol variant with a manual transmission. The Seltos, on the other hand, is available with a 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine, which can be paired with either an iMT or CVT gearbox.
