The Kia Syros has been officially launched in India and is set to enter the global market. Bookings for this SUV will open on January 3, 2025, with deliveries anticipated to begin in February 2025. As the fifth SUV in Kia India's lineup, the Syros is described by the manufacturer as "a new species of SUV."

Notably, the Syros will compete in the sub-compact SUV segment, where the Kia Sonet is already established, alongside competitors such as the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, and Skoda Kushaq. However, with the introduction of the Syros, Kia intends to appeal to a younger and more premium demographic compared to the Sonet.

In addition, to create a distinct identity for the Syros, Kia has opted for a markedly different design compared to the Sonet, although the dimensions of both vehicles are largely similar, with the exception of the wheelbase. Kia Syros: Design

The dimensions of the Kia Syros and the Sonet are largely similar; however, their designs are markedly different. The Syros represents Kia's inaugural SUV manufactured in India, showcasing the company's Design 2.0 philosophy as part of its Kia 2.0 strategy. This design language was first introduced with the Kia EV9, which debuted earlier this year.

At the front, the Syros features vertical LED daytime running lights, a robust front bumper, and a bold appearance. On the sides, it boasts a flat roofline reminiscent of an RV, flush door handles, and 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. At the rear, the Syros is equipped with high-mounted, wrap-around L-shaped LED taillights that seamlessly connect to the roofline.

Kia Syros: Features

The Kia Syros distinguishes itself from the Kia Sonet not only in its design language but also in its array of features. Targeting a more upscale clientele, the Syros incorporates numerous features derived from the Kia Seltos, which occupies a higher segment.

The Kia Syros is equipped with a 30-inch trinity panoramic dual-screen configuration that includes a touchscreen infotainment system alongside a digital driver's display. Notably, this infotainment system supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Furthermore, the interior of the Syros boasts ventilated seats for both the front and rear passengers, a second row of seats that can slide and recline, a push-button engine start/stop feature, a 360-degree parking camera, a wireless charging pad, dual USB-C ports, front parking sensors, and a panoramic sunroof.

In terms of safety, the Syros is equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) level 2 technology. This vehicle features 16 advanced adaptive safety elements, including lane-keeping assistance. Additionally, it includes hill start assist, electronic stability control, six airbags, and more.

Kia Syros: Specifications

The Kia Syros will offer both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol models will be equipped with a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine, which is also utilized in the Turbo variants of the Sonet. Unlike the Sonet, however, the turbo petrol engine in the Syros will be available with a six-speed manual transmission as well as a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This engine generates 118 bhp and delivers a peak torque of 172 Nm.

On the other hand, the diesel variants of the Syros will be powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine, which is also found in the Sonet, Seltos, and Kia Carens. In the Syros, this diesel engine produces a maximum power output of 116 bhp and a peak torque of 250 Nm. It can be paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

Kia Syros: Rivals

Kia is strategically positioning the Syros in a distinctive market segment. The Kia Syros is situated between the Seltos and the Sonet, occupying a space where no other SUV currently exists. This positioning allows the Syros to appeal to customers seeking higher trim levels of other sub-compact SUVs, as well as those interested in entry-level variants of compact SUVs such as the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Honda Elevate, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, among others.
