The sub-compact SUV market in India is heating up, as the Kia Syros has just earned a 5-star safety rating from the Bharat NCAP crash test program. It now stands alongside the Skoda Kylaq, Tata Nexon, and Mahindra XUV 3XO, all of which have also achieved high safety ratings in recent evaluations. Let’s take a look at how the Syros compares to these top contenders in terms of crash test results and safety features.

Kia Syros, Skoda Kylaq, Tata Nexon, and Mahindra XUV 3XO: Safety Ratings Compared

The Kia Syros achieved 30.21 out of 32 points for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 44.42 out of 49 in Child Occupant Protection (COP). Tested in both HTX+ petrol-DCT and HTK(O) petrol-MT versions, the SUV scored 14.21/16 in the frontal offset test and a full 16/16 in the side impact test. Bharat NCAP found its structure and safety systems to offer solid protection across both categories.

The Skoda Kylaq, another recent Bharat NCAP entrant, fared slightly better with 30.88/32 in AOP and 45/49 in COP. It scored 15.035/16 in frontal impact and 15.840/16 in side impact, with a stable footwell and passenger cell.

The Tata Nexon, which was previously tested, achieved an impressive score of 32.22 in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 44.52 in Child Occupant Protection (COP), marking the highest adult safety score to date. It also adheres to UN127 and GTR9 standards for pedestrian safety and meets Global NCAP’s requirements for Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and seatbelt alerts.

On the other hand, the Mahindra XUV 3XO earned a score of 29.36 in AOP and 43 in COP. It particularly shone in side impact tests, scoring a perfect 16 out of 16, and performed well in frontal crash tests with a score of 13.36 out of 16. Additionally, it did well in side pole testing.

The Kia Syros is equipped with six airbags, electronic stability control, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX anchors, tire pressure monitoring, a rear occupant alert system, seatbelt reminders, and an Emergency Stop Signal. Plus, it features Level 2 ADAS, which boosts its active safety capabilities.

On the other hand, the Skoda Kylaq also includes six airbags, traction control system (TCS), engine drag torque control (MSR), hill hold assist, an electronic differential lock, brake disc cleaning, and rear parking sensors, totaling 35 safety features.

The Tata Nexon is equipped with six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), rear parking sensors, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, a Blind View Monitor, and front parking sensors, along with various other safety and comfort features.

On the other hand, the XUV 300 boasts six airbags, disc brakes on all four wheels, a 360-degree camera, level 2 advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), and hill hold assist, ensuring excellent safety for families and everyday commuters alike.
