24 days ago | 5 Views
Kia India has announced the initiation of SUV transportation via a double-decker freight train from the Penukonda railway station in Andhra Pradesh. The inaugural shipment took place in February, marking it as the first instance of such an operation in India. The company emphasized that this development will significantly improve the efficiency of vehicle transportation across the nation by greatly enhancing the load capacity per train.
To date, Kia has successfully transported over 60,000 SUVs through the railway system to various regions, including the north, east, and west of the country. The double-decker train has the capability to carry up to 264 vehicles simultaneously, which is more than two and a half times the capacity of a conventional train that typically accommodates around 100 cars.
Kia India has indicated that this increased capacity will lead to optimized operational efficiency, reduced transit times, and the ability to meet the rising demands of India's burgeoning automotive sector. When integrated with road transport, this effective solution is also expected to contribute to a decrease in the carbon footprint. Hardeep Singh Brar, Senior Vice President and Head of Sales and Marketing at Kia India, remarked that the introduction of India's first double-decker freight train for SUVs represents a pivotal advancement in modernizing the country's transportation infrastructure.
He further noted that the reduction in transit times will lessen the waiting period for vehicles, enabling faster delivery of SUVs to customers. "This innovative, efficient, and environmentally friendly logistics solution will facilitate our efforts to achieve our annual growth objectives while minimizing our carbon footprint and fostering a more sustainable, cleaner, and interconnected future," Brar stated.
