KTM 390 Adventure X: Stripped Down, Still Fierce—But Is It the Best ADV?

A significant enhancement for 2025 is the launch of the LC4C 399cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine, which supersedes the former 373cc model. This upgraded engine generates 45.3 bhp and 39 Nm of torque, providing commendable performance throughout the rev range.
The augmented torque and improved power-to-weight ratio enable the motorcycle to ascend inclines of up to 22 degrees. Additionally, it is equipped with a 6-speed transmission and incorporates Quickshifter+, facilitating seamless clutchless upshifts and downshifts.
In contrast to the 390 Adventure, which emphasizes off-road performance with its 21-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheels, the 390 Adventure X maintains a staggered configuration featuring 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheels. This design renders it more appropriate for road-oriented touring while still capable of navigating gravel paths and light off-road conditions.
Moreover, the ground clearance is preserved at 227mm, enabling the motorcycle to manage uneven surfaces and obstacles with ease. The reduced seat height of 825mm enhances accessibility for a broader spectrum of riders compared to conventional adventure motorcycles that typically have higher seat heights.
Although the 390 Adventure X lacks cornering ABS, traction control, and ride modes, it is equipped with essential electronic features that promote safe and comfortable riding. These include a ride-by-wire throttle and Off-Road ABS, which allows for the complete disengagement of the rear brake, thereby improving control on loose terrain. Additionally, it features a 5-inch TFT display with turn-by-turn navigation support, further enhancing the convenience of touring.
4 Chassis and suspension
For the year 2025, the 390 Adventure X is enhanced by KTM’s newly developed adventure platform, which features significant upgrades to both the chassis and suspension configuration. Although it does not include the fully adjustable suspension found in the standard 390 Adventure, it offers increased suspension travel of 200mm at the front and 205mm at the rear, resulting in improved ride quality. KTM asserts that the updated weight distribution and streamlined bodywork contribute to enhanced handling characteristics.
5 Pricing
With a price of ₹2,91,140 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the 390 Adventure X presents a more economical option compared to the fully equipped 390 Adventure, which is priced at ₹3,67,699. By excluding certain electronic features such as traction control and adjustable suspension, KTM has made adventure touring more attainable for riders with budget constraints.
