Jeep, the American automotive leader, and Citroen, the French manufacturer, both under the Stellantis Group umbrella, have declared an increase in the prices of their vehicles and SUVs. This decision aligns them with a growing number of manufacturers in India who are set to raise prices starting January of the upcoming year. Previously, prominent automakers such as Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motor, Tata Motors, Mahindra, Kia, and JSW MG Motor have also announced similar price adjustments effective from January 1, 2025.

The price increase will affect all models offered for sale in India by both Jeep and Citroen. Jeep's Indian lineup includes the Compass, Meridian, Wrangler, and Grand Cherokee SUVs. Meanwhile, Citroen's offerings consist of the C3, Basalt, Aircross, and C5 Aircross models, along with the eC3, which is its only electric vehicle available in the market.

Jeep, Citroen announce price hike: Check how much you will need to pay

Both automakers have announced plans to raise the prices of their models by as much as 2 percent. Jeep and Citroen have not specified which models will experience the highest price increases. The companies indicated that the adjustments will vary based on specific models and variants. These price increases will be applied to the ex-showroom prices of the vehicles.

Although the precise amount of the price increase remains uncertain, a 2 percent rise could result in the entry-level Citroen Basalt SUV exceeding ₹8 lakh (ex-showroom). This coupe SUV, which was introduced earlier this year, currently has a starting price of ₹7.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Likewise, Jeep's entry-level SUV, the Compass, may see an increase of approximately ₹37,000 for its most economical variant.

Why Jeep, Citroen has announced price hike

The pair has articulated the rationale behind their decision to raise vehicle prices. The manufacturers indicated that this choice was made to transfer a portion of the escalating input costs to their clientele. Shailesh Hazela, Managing Director and CEO of Stellantis India, stated, “Although the price adjustment is driven by rising input costs and fluctuating exchange rates, we remain dedicated to ensuring value, high quality, and an exceptional driving experience for our customers.”

Other carmakers to announce price hike from January

Hyundai Motor became the first major automobile manufacturer in India to declare a price increase across its entire range in the initial week of this month. The company indicated that the prices of its vehicles, including prominent models such as the Creta, Venue, Exter, and Verna, will rise by as much as ₹25,000, contingent upon the specific model. Maruti Suzuki followed suit the next day, announcing a price increase for its vehicles across both the Nexa and Arena brands.

On December 6, Mahindra and JSW MG Motor also revealed plans to raise prices for their vehicles. Mahindra stated that it would increase the prices of its SUVs, including the Thar Roxx, Scorpio-N, and XUV700, by up to 3 percent. Similarly, JSW MG Motor announced a price hike for the Hector, Gloster, Comet, and Windsor EV, also by a comparable percentage.

Subsequently, Tata Motors and Kia joined the trend by announcing price increases across all their models. Tata Motors plans to raise prices by up to 3 percent, depending on the model, while Kia will implement a price increase of up to 2 percent across its range.
