India's Loss, Japan's Gain: Suzuki Jimny Exceeds Expectations with 50,000 Bookings in Japan
1 month ago | 5 Views
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny five-door, known as the Suzuki Jimny Nomad in Japan, has been a hit since its launch in the automaker's home country. Produced in India and shipped to Japan from the Gurugram facility in Haryana, this made-in-India model has already racked up over 50,000 bookings just four days after its price reveal in Japan.
Due to this massive demand, Suzuki has temporarily halted new bookings for the Jimny in Japan. Deliveries for the five-door SUV are expected to kick off in April 2025, with the company aiming to sell around 1,200 units of the Jimny Nomad each month in its home market. The price for this lifestyle off-roader in Japan starts at 26,51,000 Yen and goes up to 27,50,000 Yen, which is roughly ₹14.86 lakh to ₹15.41 lakh.
The Suzuki Jimny has been a favorite among off-road enthusiasts worldwide for quite some time. The five-door version offers a more practical choice for buyers and is available not just in India but also in markets like Australia, South Africa, and Mexico. India serves as the global production hub for the Jimny 5-door, with Japan being the latest to receive this model. The Jimny 5-door is exported to nearly 100 countries and ranks as the second most exported model from Suzuki in FY2025. It’s also the second made-in-India vehicle launched in Japan last year, following the Fronx, which hit the market in August 2024.
Interestingly, sales of the Jimny in India have been a bit sluggish, leading the company to offer significant discounts to boost numbers. In the Indian market, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny goes head-to-head with competitors like the Mahindra Thar Roxx.
