3 days ago | 5 Views
Hyundai has introduced a series of striking concepts throughout the years, and their latest offering is no exception. The South Korean automaker is commemorating the 35th anniversary of its luxury sedan, the Heritage Series Grandeur. This retro-inspired concept sedan draws influence from the 1980s but incorporates an unexpected electric element.
The development of this concept took eight months, with Hyundai highlighting that it operates on an "electric drive system consisting of a battery and a motor, as opposed to a traditional internal combustion engine." Unfortunately, details regarding the battery specifications, driving range, and motor have not been disclosed. The manufacturer also clarified that this concept will not enter production and serves solely as a reflection on the past to inspire future designs.
Hyundai Heritage Series Grandeur: Exterior and design
The Heritage Series Grandeur concept takes cues from the original Grandeur, delving into the idea of 'retrofuturism' by fusing traditional design elements with modern technology. This combination is clearly visible from the outside, where the classic boxy shape and flat hood are enhanced by a futuristic, parametric grille inspired by the Ioniq, along with pixel LED headlights.
On the sides, the sedan features newly designed mirrors and wheels adorned with gleaming silver chrome accents. At the rear, pixelated taillights echo the design of the front lights.
Hyundai Heritage Series Grandeur: Interior and features
The exterior certainly captivates attention, but it is the interior that has experienced a remarkable overhaul thanks to the expertise of Hyundai’s design team. The cabin is equipped with cutting-edge technology, featuring a digital instrument cluster that integrates flawlessly with a widescreen infotainment system.
Moreover, there is an additional lower display that offers a distinctive digital piano function. Nevertheless, several nostalgic elements from the original design have been preserved within the sedan's interior, including a single-spoke steering wheel, a mechanical shifter, and velvet upholstery that evokes the feel of Alcantara and Nappa leather from 1986.
In addition to the technological advancements and nostalgic features, various design elements are noteworthy, such as furniture-inspired aspects like the front armrest, which conceals a storage compartment ideal for safeguarding valuables like a watch. The luxurious interior is adorned with premium leather and wood accents, complemented by bronze ambient lighting that begins at both ends of the dashboard and extends throughout the cabin, illuminating the B-pillars. The roof lighting is further enhanced by ‘infinity mirrors’ that create a retro lighting ambiance.
