Hyundai Retains Second-Largest Carmaker Spot in FY2025, Sells Over 7.62 Lakh Units

Hyundai Motor India has announced its sales figures for FY2025, revealing a total of 762,052 units sold (including both domestic and export sales), which marks a 2.03% decline compared to the previous year. In FY2023, the company sold 777,876 units. Despite this drop, Hyundai remains the second-largest car manufacturer in India, though it trails significantly behind the market leader, Maruti Suzuki, which sold 2,234,266 units in FY2025.

Hyundai sees a decline in domestic sales while exports surge in FY2025

Hyundai's domestic sales reached 598,666 units, reflecting a 2.61% decline from the 614,721 units sold in FY2024. Exports remained steady last fiscal year, with 163,386 units sent abroad. However, Hyundai wrapped up the year on a positive note, as March 2025 saw a total of 67,320 units sold (including both domestic and exports), marking a 2.62% increase from the 65,601 units sold in the same month last year.

Tarun Garg, Whole-time Director and Chief Operating Officer of Hyundai Motor India Ltd., commented on the sales, stating, “We are solidifying our position in India, with HMIL maintaining its status as the second largest passenger vehicle OEM in FY 24-25, thanks to the unwavering trust our customers have in the Hyundai brand. Our diverse SUV lineup has strengthened this financial year with the introduction of the Hyundai Creta Electric—our first homegrown EV—and the bold new Hyundai Alcazar. The new Hyundai Creta, India’s favorite SUV, has continued to thrive, becoming the top-selling SUV with 52,898 units sold in the January-March quarter of FY 24-25. HMIL has also set industry records by surpassing 2.5 million SUV sales and 1.5 million Creta sales since its launch (domestic + exports).”

More than 2.5 million SUVs have been sold since they first hit the market

In March 2025, Hyundai's domestic sales reached 51,820 units, marking a 2.23% decline from the 53,001 units sold in March 2024. On the export side, the company shipped 15,500 units, which is a significant 23.02% increase compared to the 12,600 units exported in the same month last year.

Additionally, Hyundai announced that the Creta remains a top choice among its models, leading the SUV market with 52,898 units sold in the first quarter of 2025 (January to March). The automaker also celebrated a milestone, surpassing 2.5 million SUV sales overall and achieving 1.5 million Creta sales since its launch, including both domestic and export figures.
