Hyundai Motor India has announced it sold 4,45,116 passenger vehicles in the Indian domestic market between April and December 2024. The majority of these sales came from the company's SUV lineup. During the same period, Hyundai's exports reached 125,286 units, bringing the total sales to 570,402 vehicles.
In the third quarter of FY2024-25, Hyundai recorded 1,46,022 units in retail sales within India. Notably, the company saw a significant rise in CNG model sales, with 15% of total domestic sales coming from CNG vehicles, compared to 12% in Q3 FY23-24. Hyundai's CNG portfolio includes the Grand i10 Nios, Aura, and Exter.
The company also reported strong growth in rural markets, with 21.2% of Q3 FY2024-25 sales coming from these regions, up from 19.7% in the previous year. Hyundai remains optimistic about the future of electric vehicles (EVs) in India, with the recently launched Creta Electric expected to play a key role in driving the EV market forward. Hyundai is also focused on developing a robust EV ecosystem in India, including localization and charging infrastructure, with plans for three additional EV models.
Despite global challenges, Hyundai’s business fundamentals remain strong, and the company is confident in its ability to capitalize on opportunities to increase volumes and profitability, according to Unsoo Kim, Managing Director of Hyundai Motor India.
Hyundai Creta Electric
The Hyundai Creta Electric, launched on January 17, 2025, at the Auto Expo 2025, is the company's third electric model in India and its second EV in the portfolio. Priced starting at ₹18 lakh, the Creta Electric offers two battery pack options—42kWh and 51.4kWh.
The 42kWh battery pack is claimed to provide a range of 390 km, while the 51.4kWh option offers a range of 473 km. Hyundai claims that with DC fast charging, the Creta Electric can reach 80% charge from 10% in just 58 minutes. Alternatively, using the 11 kW Smart Connected wall box charger, it takes about 4 hours for a full charge from 10% to 100% via AC home charging.
The Creta Electric retains many features from the standard Creta but includes additional enhancements. It features a leatherette dashboard and a dual-screen configuration for both the infotainment system and the instrument cluster, similar to the internal combustion engine (ICE) variant. It supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and the redesigned steering wheel features a dual-spoke layout with four dots, inspired by the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
Additional highlights of the Hyundai Creta Electric include an electric panoramic sunroof, a new gear selector, Level-2 ADAS, and a 360-degree surround-view camera to detect blind spots. The vehicle also offers a digital key, which was first introduced with the Hyundai Alcazar, active air flaps on the front bumper for improved range efficiency, and vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality.
