This experience challenges prevalent beliefs about the practicality of electric cars while simultaneously demonstrating the vehicle's robustness.

Based on this odometer reading, the owner averaged approximately 541 km per day. Such continuous high-mileage usage is remarkable and unprecedented, considering the potential wear and tear it imposes on the vehicle's components, particularly concerning battery performance.

Battery longevity and replacement

The most remarkable aspect of this journey is the performance of the Ioniq 5's high-voltage battery. The original battery lasted around 580,000 kilometers before being replaced. In a surprising turn of events, Hyundai replaced the battery at no cost, despite it exceeding typical warranty limits. This may have been done to assess its condition after such extensive use or as a gesture of goodwill in light of the impressive mileage.

Before the replacement, the battery maintained an impressive 87 percent health, which is exceptional considering that the vehicle was primarily charged using fast chargers and frequently topped off to 100 percent—practices typically believed to shorten battery lifespan.

In addition to the battery replacement, the vehicle required standard maintenance, including changes to the differential oil and brake fluid. The owner also faced an issue with the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU), which affected AC charging performance; however, the vehicle continued to operate effectively through DC fast charging. Notably, the car only entered limp mode once during its extensive usage.
