The passenger electric vehicle sector has experienced significant growth in 2024, marked by numerous launches including the Tata Punch EV, Tata Curvv EV, and the latest addition, the Mahindra BE 6. This upward trend is anticipated to persist into 2025, beginning with the highly anticipated Hyundai Creta EV. Hyundai is expected to reveal the Creta EV shortly, likely in the second week of January 2025. This model will play a crucial role in the automaker's electric vehicle strategy in India, representing its third electric offering in the country following the Kona Electric and Ioniq 5.

Hyundai Motor India has recently announced plans to broaden its electric vehicle portfolio, commencing with the electric variant of the Creta. The Creta is among the most favoured models in Hyundai's lineup in India, boasting a dedicated customer base. The company aims to leverage Creta's strong brand recognition to generate interest that was not achieved with Kona Electric or Ioniq 5.

Numerous spy photographs of the forthcoming Creta EV have surfaced, confirming that the electric version of this popular SUV will maintain a design akin to the current generation Creta. The camouflaged prototypes have revealed features such as a connected taillight at the rear, a similar rear bumper, and a shark-fin antenna. Notably, the absence of a tailpipe will be the most prominent distinction of the Creta Electric Vehicle, which will also feature Creta EV badging at the rear.

In terms of design, it appears that the headlamp and daytime running light configuration will remain unchanged, while Hyundai intends to replace the conventional radiator grille with a closed panel. The vehicle is also expected to come equipped with a new set of alloy wheels aimed at enhancing aerodynamics. The Creta EV will be constructed on an updated version of the K2 architecture, the same platform utilized by the current Hyundai Creta.

Hyundai Creta EV: Specs

The specifications for the Hyundai Creta EV have not been disclosed at this time; however, it is anticipated that the vehicle will be offered in two variants, each featuring distinct battery pack options. In comparison, the newly introduced Tata Curvv EV, which will compete with the Creta EV, provides battery pack choices of 45 kWh and 55 kWh, delivering ranges of 430 km and 502 km, respectively. It is expected that the Hyundai Creta EV will match these offerings with comparable configurations, aiming to achieve a single-charge range of 500 km.

Hyundai Creta EV: Cabin and features

The Creta EV is anticipated to be classified as a premium vehicle, which implies it will feature an upscale interior crafted from high-quality materials and a broader array of technological advancements. The cabin is likely to be adorned with premium leatherette and is expected to include an electric panoramic sunroof. Alternatively, the Creta EV may also offer a sustainable upholstery option for the interior, similar to the Hyundai Ioniq 5.

The front seats are projected to be electrically adjustable and equipped with ventilation, while the second-row seats will retain a two-step reclining capability. Hyundai is likely to introduce a new gear selector and modify the layout of the centre console. Additional enhancements may consist of a redesigned three-spoke steering wheel and ambient lighting with customizable profiles.

Regarding features, the Hyundai Creta EV is expected to incorporate a dual-screen configuration for the infotainment system and instrument cluster, akin to that of the internal combustion engine model. This setup will support wireless connectivity through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The front row will be equipped with a wireless phone charger and a cooled glovebox, while passengers in the second row will benefit from rear air conditioning vents and USB charging ports. Most technological and safety features are anticipated to be retained in the Creta EV, which will also include Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and a 360-degree surround-view camera to assist in detecting blind spots.

With a projected price range of ₹20-30 lakh, the Creta EV is set to compete in the expanding electric SUV market, which includes models such as the MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv EV, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, and BYD Atto 3.
