Hyundai Motor has officially announced the specifications of the forthcoming Creta EV, set to launch later this month. The vehicle will make its global debut at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo, scheduled to take place on January 17 at Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The South Korean automotive manufacturer has released videos and images of the SUV, providing an initial look at its electric design. Currently, the Creta stands as the company's top-selling SUV in India, and the introduction of its electric variant is anticipated to strengthen its position within the compact SUV market in the near future.
The Hyundai Creta EV will complement the Ioniq 5 electric SUV in the company's electric vehicle lineup for India. It is set to replace the Kona Electric SUV in Hyundai's EV offerings and will compete with rivals such as the MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv EV, MG Windsor EV, and Tata Nexon EV, among others. Additionally, the Creta EV will face competition from upcoming electric models like the Tata Harrier EV and Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, both expected to launch in January. In anticipation of its release, a brief comparison of the Creta EV's range and battery specifications against its competitors is provided.
Hyundai Creta EV vs MG Windsor EV
Hyundai Motor is set to introduce the Creta EV, which will be available with two battery options. The smaller battery, featuring a capacity of 42 kWh, is marginally larger than the 38 kWh battery provided by JSW MG Motor in the Windsor EV, which currently holds the title of the best-selling electric vehicle in India. The Windsor EV is priced starting at ₹9.99 lakhs (ex-showroom) and offers a range of 332 kilometres on a single charge. It is equipped with DC fast charging capabilities, allowing it to recharge up to 80 per cent in just 55 minutes.
In contrast, the Creta EV is expected to deliver a range of 390 kilometres with its smaller battery. According to the manufacturer, this electric SUV will be able to charge from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in only 58 minutes when utilizing a DC fast charger.
Hyundai Creta EV vs Tata Curvv EV
The forthcoming Hyundai electric SUV is set to compete with the Tata Curvv EV. When considering battery capacity and range, the Creta EV emerges as a more direct competitor to the Tata electric SUV. In addition to a 42 kWh battery, the Creta EV will also feature a more substantial 51.4 kWh option. The Curvv EV is available with two battery configurations: a 45 kWh and a 55 kWh variant. Regarding range, the Creta EV can achieve up to 473 kilometres on a single charge, while the Curvv EV offers a range between 430 kilometres and 502 kilometres, contingent upon the selected battery size.
The MG ZS EV is fitted with a 50.3 kWh battery, which is comparable to the larger battery option available in the Creta EV. However, in terms of range, the ZS EV is rated for up to 461 kilometres on a single charge, slightly less than the 473 kilometres offered by the Hyundai EV.
Hyundai Creta EV vs Maruti Suzuki e Vitara
The upcoming Maruti e Vitara is poised to be a significant competitor to the Creta EV within the compact electric SUV market. The traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) variants, the Creta and Grand Vitara, are already established rivals in their category. Maruti plans to introduce the e Vitara equipped with the largest battery options available among its competitors, featuring both a 49 kWh and a 61 kWh battery pack. According to Maruti, the e Vitara is expected to deliver a range exceeding 500 kilometres on a single charge, although specific range details related to the batteries have yet to be disclosed. It is anticipated that the Creta EV, with its larger battery, will compete closely with the entry-level variant of the e Vitara in terms of range.
