15 days ago | 5 Views
Honda has submitted a design patent for the PCX160 maxi-scooter in India, suggesting the company's potential entry into the premium 160cc scooter market. Although there is no official announcement regarding a launch date, this development implies that Honda may be gearing up to unveil a premium 160cc scooter in the region.
Currently available in Southeast Asian markets such as Indonesia and the Philippines, the Honda PCX160 competes directly with the Yamaha Aerox 155 and the recently introduced Hero Xoom 160. In international markets, the PCX160 boasts the following specifications:
Honda PCX160: Engine and Performance
The PCX160 is powered by a 157cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that generates 15.5 bhp and 15 Nm of torque. Paired with a V-matic automatic transmission, this scooter is designed to strike a balance between performance and fuel efficiency, making it ideal for urban commuting as well as short highway trips.
Honda PCX160: Design and Chassis
This two-wheeler showcases a contemporary design characterized by its maxi-scooter aesthetics. The PCX160 is built on an underbone frame, featuring 31mm telescopic forks at the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear. It is equipped with alloy wheels, featuring a 14-inch front and a 13-inch rear configuration, which differs slightly from the 14-14 setup found in the Aerox and Xoom. For braking, Honda has installed a 220mm disc brake at the front and a 130mm rear drum brake, both complemented by standard single-channel ABS.
Honda PCX160: Features
In terms of features, the PCX160 is equipped with a highly visible LCD instrument panel that boasts a 3D bezel design. This panel provides essential information such as the speedometer, trip meter, fuel gauge, fuel efficiency display, low battery warning, and a V-belt replacement notification. For added convenience, the scooter includes a keyless ignition, a USB-C charging port, a front storage cubby, and a spacious 30-liter underseat storage area. The extended footboard allows for customizable riding positions, while the floor-mounted fuel tank enhances stability by lowering the center of gravity.
The design patent application may hold significance beyond mere documentation this time. Unlike several other Honda models that have been patented in India without subsequent release, the PCX160 aligns with the increasing demand for robust yet practical scooters in the Indian market. It remains uncertain whether the PCX160 will be available in showrooms or become another unlaunched patent, but it has undoubtedly generated excitement within the two-wheeler community.
