The hatchback segment remains popular among numerous buyers, primarily due to their compact size, which facilitates navigation through congested urban areas, as well as their superior fuel efficiency. The Tata Tiago, a leading hatchback in this category, has recently undergone an update that includes minor design modifications and enhancements to key features.

Similarly, the Maruti Suzuki Swift, a prominent contender in the Indian hatchback market, received an update last year. The latest generation introduced significant changes, encompassing design, features, and specifications. The refreshed Tiago reignites its competition with the Swift. Below is a comparison of the updated Tiago and the Swift.

Tata Tiago vs Maruti Suzuki Swift: Specifications  

The updated Tata Tiago is powered by a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine, which is offered with both a five-speed manual and an AMT gearbox. This engine produces a peak power of 84 bhp and a maximum torque of 113 Nm. The CNG variants, however, deliver a lower output of 72 bhp and 95 Nm of torque, and they also come with an AMT option alongside the five-speed manual transmission.

In contrast, the Maruti Suzuki Swift is equipped with the Z-Series 1.2-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, which has replaced the previous 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine. This powertrain is available with both a five-speed manual and a five-speed AMT. It generates a top power of 80.46 bhp and a maximum torque of 111.7 Nm. The manual variant achieves a fuel efficiency of 24.8 kmpl, while the AMT version offers 25.75 kmpl. The CNG variants are powered by the same Z-Series petrol engine, but their output is reduced to 69 bhp and 101 Nm of torque.

The updated Tata Tiago features a refreshed interior color scheme and now comes standard with new Melange fabric upholstery. The driver's seat is height-adjustable, and the cabin is equipped with automatic climate control. Additionally, the Tiago includes a digital instrument cluster and Tata's illuminated smart steering wheel as standard features. The upgrade also offers three infotainment options, with the premium models boasting a 10.25-inch floating touchscreen that supports fully wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

In terms of safety, the new Tata Tiago maintains essential features such as dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and an electronic stability control system. Furthermore, it is equipped with automatic LED headlamps, cruise control, hill hold control, a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and a rear parking camera.

The Maruti Suzuki Swift now features a new standard 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with an updated digital instrument cluster. The higher-end models are equipped with a larger 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 360-degree camera, a Head-up Display, wireless charging capabilities, and rear air conditioning vents, among other enhancements.

In terms of safety, the fourth-generation Swift is equipped with six airbags as standard across all variants, in addition to Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and hill start assist. This represents a significant improvement over the previous model, which only offered dual airbags even in its higher trims.

Comparing prices, the 2025 Tata Tiago is positioned similarly to its predecessor, with petrol variants starting at ₹4.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and reaching up to ₹7.45 lakh. The Tiago iCNG begins at ₹5.99 lakh (ex-showroom). In contrast, the Maruti Suzuki Swift is priced between ₹6.49 lakh and ₹9.65 lakh (ex-showroom), with CNG variants starting at ₹8.19 lakh (ex-showroom).
