Volkswagen's MQB platform stands as one of the most widely utilized and favored vehicle architectures in the automotive industry. This platform is poised to integrate Level 2+ autonomous driving technology, which promises to enable hands-free driving capabilities in the vehicles it supports. In the near future, this advanced technology will be introduced in MQB-based models from various brands under the Volkswagen AG umbrella.

The MQB architecture is employed by several brands within the Volkswagen Group, including Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, and Seat, all of which will benefit from this technological advancement. However, the company has yet to disclose which specific model will be the first to feature this innovation.

The development of Volkswagen's Level 2+ autonomous driving technology is a collaborative effort with Valeo and Mobileye. This system will not only facilitate hands-free driving but will also include features such as traffic jam assistance, 360-degree emergency support, and parking assistance, along with a hazard detection system. The technology aims to enhance safety and driving comfort in high-volume vehicles and will support augmented reality displays as well.

Level 2+ autonomous driving technology: How it will work

Regarding the functionality of the Level 2+ autonomous driving technology, while Volkswagen has not provided extensive details, it is anticipated to enable vehicles to operate hands-free at speeds of up to 130 km/h. This may also include automatic lane changes, making long-distance travel more comfortable for drivers.

The technology will rely on a comprehensive array of cameras, radars, and sensors arranged in a 360-degree configuration. It will incorporate a Surround ADAS platform, an EyeQ 6 High processor, and advanced mapping technologies. These components will be unified into a single system, allowing for the replacement of multiple electronic control units (ECUs) with a centralized unit, which is expected to enhance overall efficiency and performance.
