India's electric car fleet projected to grow to 9% by FY30
Electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers have predominantly driven the Indian electric vehicle sector. Although the adoption of electric vehicles in the passenger vehicle segment has increased notably in recent years, it remains relatively subdued when compared to electric two-wheelers. Nevertheless, this scenario is expected to evolve in the coming years, with projections indicating that EV penetration in the Indian passenger vehicle market could rise to nine per cent by the fiscal year 2030.
Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e phase 2 test drives begin
Mahindra introduced the BE 6 and XEV 9e models in November 2024, with initial prices set at ₹18.90 lakh (ex-showroom) and ₹21.90 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively. The premium Pack Three variants of these electric SUVs are priced at ₹26.90 lakh (ex-showroom) and ₹30.50 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively. The pricing details for the other variants have yet to be disclosed. The company has initiated test drives for these vehicles in the Delhi NCR, Mumbai MMR, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune regions during the first phase. The second phase of test drives commenced on January 25, allowing customers in Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Coimbatore, Goa, Howrah, Indore, Jaipur, Jalandhar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Surat, Vadodara, Chandigarh, and Tricity to experience both the Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e. Furthermore, the third phase will expand test drive availability for both models nationwide, starting from February 7.
Mitsubishi won't join Honda-Nissan alliance
Mitsubishi has chosen not to participate in the alliance formed by Honda and Nissan, which recently signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a new holding company. Although Mitsubishi initially expressed interest in exploring potential participation and synergies related to the Honda-Nissan merger, it has now decided to withdraw from the alliance.
