A Lamborghini luxury vehicle caught fire late on Wednesday, December 25, in Mumbai. The incident occurred on Coastal Road at approximately 10:20 PM when smoke was observed emanating from the Lamborghini Revuelto. The footage was shared on social media by Gautam Singhania, Chairman and Managing Director of the Raymond Group, who has expressed significant concerns regarding the safety of vehicles produced by the Italian luxury car manufacturer.
The video depicts the orange Lamborghini Revuelto engulfed in flames, with an individual attempting to extinguish the fire using a hosepipe. Firefighters arrived and successfully extinguished the blaze within 45 minutes. Fortunately, reports indicate that there were no injuries resulting from the incident. The Revuelto is among the most expensive luxury cars in Lamborghini's Indian lineup, with a price tag of ₹8.89 crore (ex-showroom).
Singhania utilized the social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, to voice his safety apprehensions regarding Lamborghini's luxury vehicles. He stated, “Incidents like this raise serious concerns about the reliability and safety standards of Lamborghini. For the price and reputation, one expects uncompromising quality—not potential hazards." Singhania, known for his extensive car collection, had previously raised similar concerns after test-driving the same model.
In October of this year, Singhania recounted his experience with the Lamborghini Revuelto, noting that he had taken delivery of the supercar just 15 days before the incident on Mumbai's Trans-Harbour Link Road. He reported that the luxury vehicle experienced an electrical failure during his drive, leaving him stranded. Singhania also mentioned that he had not received any communication from Lamborghini India or its Asia division regarding the issue he raised.
Singhania's past encounters with high-end automobile manufacturers.
Singhania has previously expressed his grievances towards various luxury automobile manufacturers in India, such as Maserati and Porsche. In the previous year, he issued a caution to potential buyers of the Maserati MC20, labelling it as a 'dangerous vehicle that could lead to serious accidents.' In 2015, he directed his criticism towards Porsche following an incident in which a 2011 Porsche Cayenne Turbo owned by industrialist Yohan Poonawalla ignited in Mumbai.
