12 days ago | 5 Views
Bhavish Aggarwal, the Co-Founder and CEO of Ola Electric, recently conducted a test ride of the newly introduced Ola S1 Z electric scooter. This model represents the brand's most economical option to date, aimed at consumers seeking an affordable electric two-wheeler with an extended range. Notably, it is also Ola's inaugural model featuring removable batteries.
Aggarwal shared a video along with several images on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) while testing the S1 Z. He expressed his enthusiasm by stating, “Having fun riding and testing the S1 Z! Can't wait for everyone to experience it!"
Ola S1 Z: What Is It?
The Ola S1 Z is offered in two versions: Z and Z+, both equipped with removable battery packs. These battery packs can be conveniently charged at home, in the office, or at any location that has a standard three-pin charging socket. This feature enhances the ease of charging, promoting broader acceptance among users. Additionally, the S1 Z features a distinct design compared to the pricier S1 X, Air, and Pro models, characterized by minimal bodywork and a lower-positioned LED headlamp.
Ola S1 Z Battery and Range
The Ola S1 Z is fitted with two removable battery packs, each with a capacity of 1.5 kWh. It is also capable of operating with just one battery pack. The manufacturer asserts that a single battery pack provides a range of 75 km, while utilizing both packs is said to extend the range to 146 km.
Ola S1 Z Prices
The Ola S1 Z is available at a starting price of ₹59,999, reaching up to ₹64,999 (ex-showroom) for the premium S1 Z+ variant. This new model will be offered alongside the current lineup, which includes the S1 Pro, S1 Air, and S1 X, catering to personal mobility needs. Ola Electric has announced that deliveries will begin in May 2025 throughout the nation.
Importantly, the Ola S1 Z will compete with the newly launched Honda Activa e:, which features swappable battery packs. In contrast to Ola, Honda will provide the batteries through its battery-as-a-service (BaaS) initiative, potentially lowering the initial purchase cost, with the battery available for a minimal rental fee. Pricing details for the Honda Activa e: will be revealed in January 2025, with deliveries in Bengaluru starting in February, followed by Mumbai and Delhi in April 2025. The company intends to establish its battery swapping stations prior to expanding the Activa e: into additional markets across the country.
