The Indian market for passenger electric vehicles has experienced significant growth over the past year, primarily due to the expanding array of choices within the compact electric SUV category. This segment, which initially included the Hyundai Kona Electric and the MG ZS EV, now features four models: the MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, and Mahindra BE 6. The pricing details for the Mahindra BE 6 have recently been disclosed, while the Hyundai Creta Electric was officially launched on January 17.

In contrast to conventional comparisons of internal combustion engine vehicles, evaluating electric vehicles involves different considerations. Although features and pricing are important factors in selecting the appropriate model, battery capacity emerges as a critical aspect. Notably, each of the four compact electric SUVs presents varying battery pack capacities. Below is a brief overview of how these four models compare in terms of pricing, features, and driving range.

Mahindra BE 6 vs Hyundai Creta Electric vs Tata Curvv EV vs MG ZS EV: Price

The Mahindra BE 6 will be offered in five distinct variants: Pack One, Pack One Above, Pack Two, Pack Three Select, and Pack Three. The entry-level variant, BE 6 Pack One, is priced at ₹18.90 lakh, while the Pack One Above is available for ₹20.50 lakh. The Pack Two and Pack Three Select are priced at ₹21.90 lakh and ₹24.50 lakh, respectively. The highest variant, Pack Three, is priced at ₹26.90 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom.

In comparison, the Hyundai Creta Electric range begins at ₹17.99 lakh for the base Executive trim. The Smart and Smart (O) variants are priced at ₹18.99 lakh and ₹19.50 lakh, respectively. The Smart (O) variant, which features a larger battery pack, is priced at ₹21.50 lakh, while the Premium variant with a smaller battery pack is available for ₹20 lakh. The top-tier Excellence variant with the larger battery pack is priced at ₹23.50 lakh.

The MG ZS EV starts at ₹18.98 lakh (ex-showroom), closely aligning with the starting price of the BE 6. Additionally, the top variants of both electric SUVs are similarly priced, with the BE 6 at ₹26.90 lakh (ex-showroom) and the ZS EV at ₹25.23 lakh (ex-showroom). The Tata Curvv EV is the most economical option among the three, with prices ranging from ₹17.49 lakh to ₹21.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Mahindra BE 6 stands out as the most premium choice among its competitors, featuring a larger battery capacity compared to the alternatives. It offers two battery options: 59 kWh and 79 kWh. Notably, the larger 79 kWh battery is exclusively available in the top-tier Pack Three variants of both electric SUVs, while all other variants are equipped with the smaller 59 kWh battery. Both battery options support DC fast charging at a rate of up to 175 kW, enabling a charge from 20 per cent to 80 per cent in approximately 20 minutes.

According to Mahindra, the BE 6 can achieve a range of up to 535 km with the 59 kWh battery, while the 79 kWh variant is reported to provide a range of 682 km. In comparison, the Tata Curvv EV offers two smaller battery options of 45 kWh and 55 kWh, with the larger battery providing a maximum range of 502 km, which is over 50 km less than the entry-level BE 6. The smaller battery in the Curvv EV is capable of delivering up to 430 km of range.

The Hyundai Creta Electric also presents two battery options, including a 42 kWh and a larger 51.4 kWh unit. The Creta Electric can achieve a range of up to 473 km with the larger battery, while the smaller variant is estimated to provide 390 km. It is noteworthy that the Creta Electric features the smallest battery options among its competitors. Meanwhile, the MG ZS EV is available with a single battery pack rated at 50.3 kWh, which is claimed to offer a range of 461 km on a full charge.
